Stubby folders

Too thin for what? You've been compiling a list of beefy folders and now stubby folders. You are rejecting some and accepting others. What are you going to use them for?

My criteria, my choice. Nothing against other folders and other people's choices nor opinions. :)

Ok, fair enough, what is your intended use? Or is is just visual appeal for you? I do carry a thick bladed folder a lot of times too but I have an intended use for them. Too bad they just don't cut as well as thinner ones for thick materials. They still cut though. :)

Three Sisters Forge Beast looks to fit your criteria.

Built like a Beast in some ways, but it's too small to be a "beast" in my opinion.

The quartermaster qtr-1 (or its mantis tough tony or pit boss counterparts) is the definition of a stubby thick blade.

Although people here throw a fit at the mention of the two companies, it is a stubby, THICK bladed knife.

Thanks for reminding me. I had that in mind about a couple of months ago and somehow dropped the ball on it. A little bigger than I'd like for this "category" but what's not to like (reminds me of my Boker Minos). They also have their CCT "Credit Card Tactical" which is more up the alley here.

Three Sisters Forge BEAST Specifications:

Overall Length: 7.25"
Blade Length: 3"
Blade Thickness: 0.157"
Blade Steel: 440C
Handle Material: Titanium
Weight: ??? oz.

The Three Sisters Forge Beast is actually available in a number of steels including M399, ELMAX, CPM154, and he also takes requests of others. I think he will even make the blade thicker upon request (don't quote me in that).

That knife in 3V would be amazing. Even better in M4.

Perfect. Plus it's made in Germany. Anybody used one?

Boker Pipsqueak Specifications:
Overall Length: 6.125"
Blade Length: 2.50"
Blade Thickness: 0.16"
Blade Steel: S35VN
Handle Material: Micarta Handle
Frame Material: Titanium
Weight: 5.08 oz.

Yep. Serial number 138, got it not long after they first came out. I highly recommend it. Of your initial knives you mentioned, I own a 755, and to me, I vastly prefer the boker. What is not apparent about the pimpsqueak is the liner side is as thick as the locking side, and still has a nice contoured slab of micarta on top.

I sent TSF questions about both knives an hour ago. I'll see about lead times. You meant M390 as one of the steels not M399. I got the 440C from an old 2010 issue of Blade Magazine. I really like the texture and finish on the titanium handles for looks and extra grip.

tops x-cest delta, I have one and its beefy and stubby. I like it, however for its size it weighs a ton!

Another member also highly praised the Boker Pipsqueak. I ordered one about 3 hours ago and hope that outfit has that last one in stock. Will know more tomorrow.

The Quartermaster Knives H.M. Murdock QTR-1 certainly fits in. Does it only come with partial serrations? On such a tiny blade length that seems a waste of space?!

You mentioned that some are not enthusiastic about that knife or two of the three companies you mentioned? If so which two and why?

Quartermaster QTR-1 Specifications:
Overall Length: 5.875"
Blade Length: 2.75"
Blade Thickness: 0.1875"
Blade Steel: CPM-154, 58-60RC
Handle Material: G10
Weight: 5.2 oz.

Did you see my review of it?

I read through your Boker Pipsqueak Review with Pics.

Good stuff since I'm right-handed and tip up/down doesn't matter too much to me. I'll pay close attention to the pivot. I like how you ultimately said: "Overall, this knife is awesome."! The green micarta handle almost looks like leather. I'm actually getting it just below your low end price so I'm happy about that.

Thanks.

Too big and heavy for this criteria.

TOPS XcEST-Delta Specifications:
Overall Length: 7.50"
Blade Length: 3.375"
Blade Thickness: 0.193"
Blade Steel: N690Co / Cobalt Vanadium Steel, RC 58-60
Frame Material: 6061 T-6
Handle Material: Blue/Black G-10
Weight: 8.2 oz.

Direware solo, Kershaw 1 ton

The Direware Solo-V4 is too big for this criteria but both the S-90 and Hyper-90 are promising. All three have 0.177" thick M390 steel blades! Seem semi-custom...

In the Kershaw Ton Series there are Half-Ton, 3/4-Ton and 1-Ton. The first two have the right blade length. None have the blade thickness and the overall material used is not what I'm looking for.

Emerson CQC-14

I like the blade length and the full-size handle. You give up on compactness a little. Blade length of 2.7" is great but blade could be thicker. The Satin Ceramic finishes weigh almost an ounce more than black blades!

Emerson CQC-14 Snubby Specifications:
Overall Length: 7.6"
Blade Length: 2.7"
Blade Thickness: .125"
Blade Steel: 154 CM
Handles: Black G-10 epoxy / glass laminate
Weight: 5.2 oz.

This thread had an unexpected benefit for me. I don't really like small knives but it was only until after I saw this thread and the cute pipsqueak knife, consider me a newly made fan of this category! Thanks RamZar.

Folders in this "category" can cut and act as pry bars amongst their many uses (up to your imagination).

My Boker Blackwood Pipsqueak got shipped today! I'll be sure to post a family picture with my three other stubbies: Benchmade 755 MPR, Spyderco Techno and Boker Albatros.
