SUBCOM Folder...on going review(s)...

So I got my SubCom in the mail today. It was delayed by one day,

I love the shape of the SubCom, it really feels like a bigger knife. I had to sharpen it a few times on my Sharpmaker to get the edge I wanted. The frame lock is excellent and the finger coil at the end of the blade prevents your finger from getting sliced during closing.

A couple of things could be tweaked though.

The flat thumbstud is not as easy to use as an opening hole or a regular round thumbstud (like on the Benchmade Griptillan).

The thumbstud sometimes gets caught on my jean when I pocket it.

Overall, a very nice knife for $30. The price is low enough so that I could abuse it and not feel bad :D I would pay 2x as more for better steel and material.

Once you're accustomed to it, it'll be significantly easier than a regular thumbstud. This particular stud seems taylor made for my thumb, and I HATE thumbstuds.

I tried to find a reason to hate this thumb stud, but I can't, just takes a little getting used to, as it's different.

Aloha LongDistance,

Sorry about the stud. Ideally, I wanted it to be made of steel, and if anything, to have Boker use the studs like those found on their Stellar series. However, they went "all out" and made one!

Try hitting the corner of the stud closest to my logo...might help out the opening.:o

God bless and mahalo:thumbup:

Downtown LA...a bit of rust, but remember it is first edition steel...and the caretaker holds some blame as well. :o

Aloha zen'bro,

Great pics...however, why is the SF "belly up" like that? Was it tired from the trip?

God bless:thumbup:

Like I said on the spyderco forum Zen was pimping his Subcom in LA......on its back and open like that.......Doc:D

I have had my SUBCOM for about three weeks now. What a great little companion. I stopped by my local knife store last friday and picked up my new tan SUBCOM. I have been looking for a first generation, and have a fixed blade ordered. I am looking forward to the other varients.
Chad thanks for giving me another addiction:D Keep them coming.

Aloha and welcome Chris Adams,

Mahalo much for your support, and I am glad that the SF has been a good companion to you. Also, thanks for picking up a Des SF...I just got my "user" a few days ago as well.:p

I am also anxiously awaiting the Variants...I do believe that the All Black SF is next.

Well Chris, keep us posted...so far so good for the "biscuit"!

God bless and thank you:thumbup:

What do you all think about the jimping on the lockbar?

Aloha Chris Adams,

Ahhhhhhhh, I never needed it. :p However, it was requested so Boker threw them on there. So long as it helps us ELU's, than all is good.;)

God bless:thumbup:

Hi Daywalker,

Well I got my Subcom yesterday and so far I am very impressed fit and finish is awesome. The only thing is the clip is tight man thought it was going to rip a hole right through my pocket but I will take care of that have to loosen it a little. But overall I have happy with it..

I have to tell you I don't ever stray from Spydies, but this one is just too interesting:cool: I'll leave feedback when it arrives but I have to say I hope your receiving commision checks on a regular basis. You seem to deserve it:eek:

Dear Friends,

I have been EDCing the SubCom constantly of late and am still amazed at how well it cuts and handles. Chad's designs are positively astounding and Boker's execution of them flawless.

Waiting for the WharnCom is admittedly getting difficult. The Rescue version will go out to a few friends that are Paramedics and EMTs.

And the Trance? I MUST have one of those... :D

Aloha zen' bro,

Ahhhhh, okay. NOW I gotcha. :) I like your explaination better than Doc's!

FWIW, my "daylight hours" are not for basking in the sun...I am in Hell at those times...so, YES..."Daywalker indeed!":p

God bless knifebro:D

Aloha Shooter45,

Yes, I apologize for that super tight clip. However, as Scott always points out, better a tight one that can be custom tweaked by the owner, than a super loose stock clip.:o

Thanks for your support and keep us posted.

God bless and take care:thumbup:
