Suits and Knives

First I would get a smallish WH then.... I have heard the idea of having a second pocket sewn into the regular pocket made just for your knife at first you just sloppy sew a hunk of a fabric until you get the placement right then have it done by a tailor or maybe you have a relative who can sew, the idea is to get the pouch sewn into the pocket lining on the leg side not the outside and find the right balance of how deep but still easy to get to.

I have considered buying a CF Caly 3 for my Sunday Morning clothes. Seems nice and classy. FWIW.

check out the KSF clovis pouch. it's an open top design, originally for the sebenza, but it'll hold any similarly sized object. not super expensive, either.

Check out the Paklite Skinner too-very small profile, very lightweight-but a true performer and exceptionally clean and sophisticated lookin'.

I recently bought a suit from tailoredman.com. Their tailors take your measurements, and a picture, and send it off to Hong Kong to have the suit made. Their prices start at around $400, and go up to about $1000. For that, you get a suit that is made for you and only you. If there is a fit issue after it arrives, they contract a local tailor to make the final alterations.

One of the benefits is that you can order as many pairs of pants as you like. It is ideal if you go through pants quickly.

Maybe?

I mean, aslong as the jacket stays on. If not then i'd go with a neck knife or some kind of ankle rig.

I would stick with a Swiss Army knife of some sort in the pocket. If you wear a jacket then slip a folder or a fixed in the inside jacket pocket. I am in your same boat I have to go to a conference in a formal suit and I will be odd to not clip a couple Spydies on my pocket or carry a fixed blade in the waistband or small of my back.

A small SAK or a Case CV Peanut. Can't believe I'm the first to mention a peanut. Jackknife must be busy tonight.

What is your price range?

I regularly carry a Military in the jacket pocket. But if you want lighter options, I also carry a Benchmade 440 dropped in the pants pocket (very light and classy), a small Sebenza, Buck Mayo TNT, Buck Waimea, ZDP Caly 3, or UKPK, either clipped in the pants pocket or in the jacket pocket. All of them have no issues with wear on the pocket.

Or you could go with a traditional pattern, like the small jack/barlow series or toothpick from Great Eastern, or a Queen small stockman. Here are a few of mine that I consider to be gents carry for suits:

And if you want some real class, look at some William Henry models. They are very high quality, and many of them are very light. I especially like the titanium version of the Lancet with ZDP blade, one day I will have one of them.

Get a slipjoint Congress pattern. 4 bladed traditional folder meant for gentlemen and yet, with blades you can keep one sharp, rough one up (open a box or cut tape) etc. Save the clip lockbacks for the weekend. You'll stick out like a sore thumb with a clip knive and depending on the work environment, you may not be able to ever use it.

I carry a traditional, red, Swiss Army Super Tinker. The blade is under 3" per company policy and, policy or no, nobody perceives the thing as a weapon. So when something needs cutting, I can do so without any worries...plus I got scissors and screw drivers when for other things. True story, our company electric an opener broke and one of the pretty girls in the office couldn't open her can of tunafish. SAK to the rescue. She was very appreciative and I was the hero...such as it was.

I wear a suit or sport coat and slacks everyday. This is my solution on how to carry some of my favorite knives:

For reference the city knife is 5 3/4" OAL. Sits in my right front pocket and is quite comfortable and not noticeable.

Nice setup.

Just lose the bloody clips and drop a standard size folding knife one of your many pockets with a standard two piece suit you have like 7-9 pockets to choose from. Try a nice simple Benchmade 940, light and disappears in your pocket. I never understood the need for pocket clips or those silly cell phone holsters particularly in office environments. Cell phones are small now and clips on knife just strike me as an affectation to announce knife carrying status. No offense to those in industrial/construction/outdoor jobs where those make sense or to anybody who carries that way but I just don't get it.

I'd go for a gents knife of some kind. Like... a Benchmade Shoki or Opportunist right off the top of my head. Something that isn't scary if you need to use it to cut something while in front of people in a suit. So, try to go for a nice wood scale or colorful. Not all black, serrated, and fast.

A lot of these options seem to involve buying new stuff. Just take your suits to a seamstress/tailor and have the pockets cut out and replaced with more durable material. It cost me about $10 per pair of shorts when I had it done to my summer cargos (Old Navy/Gap pockets = very weak material)

I carry a Buck 55 or a GEC melon whittler when I wear a suit.

One step down from a suit, but still wearing a shirt, tie, and/or sportcoat, I sometimes carry the above, but sometimes a GEC 25 (single blade), a Case TB swayback jack, or a Queen #48 whittler.
