Suits and Knives

I'm with Coop. Try a thin traditional in your choice of pocket. Otherwise, I have carried a pocketknife of various sizes and shapes from small to fairly large and I have never worn a hole in any work trousers or suit pants. Ever.

Now if you take one of those grippy tactical knives with the rough or checkered G-10, you could possibly have a problem, but if that seems to be an issue get a pocket slip to put it in.

Now your new job may be in the bodyguard business and you may have to have a knife bigger than a Case Swayback Jack, but most jobs requiring 400$ suits don't require any cutting most days.

My favorite office work knife was/is a Gerber Silver Knight with 2-1/2" blade, generally the 250B model.

Inside the jacket, IWB behind the belt buckle so it isn't seen, or down in a pocket (prefferably the back one next to your wallet) are the ways to go.

I think the 3 most practical and affordable suggestions are:

As many others have said, a small to medium victorinox will give you everything you need.

A.G. Russel Ultimate Pen Knife.
 Excellent suggestion. No pocket bulges with this guy.

Try a traditional slipjoint in your front pocket. Who knows, you might enjoy it.
I like this suggestion too. One day I just might cross over to the "other side" and try a traditional knife. I especially like the toothpick style blades. Classy, yet wicked sharp looking!

As for my own input:

Kershaw Chive. Small, handy, elegant, many versions available. But it is assisted opening, some don't like that. (If you want bigger, there is the Leek, but that may be a tad large for the boardroom)

SOG Access Card 2. Its funky, its different, maybe a bit too tacticool. But it is light, flat enough to disappear in any pocket and well put together. Plus, its VG-10!

Let us know what you decide on!

as a suit wearer, I recomend the Benchmade 530 Pardue- it's light, flat, and virtually invisible clipped to the pocket.

When I got dressed up, I carried a MT UT6 in my RF pocket. The clip on the 1st Gen UTs was done well. Then I carried a Matt Ramey Ti necker under my Perry Ellis shirt. I wore a Class A uniform clip on tie which had a bar type tie clip holding it to my shirt. I left the button undone under the tie so I could get a quick cross draw.

Be sure that the scales of your knife don't clash with your pumps, it could ruin the evening.- George

I'll second the choice of a Wm Henry Spearpoint. Clipped to a shirt or jacket, it almost looks like a pen.

I were dress clothes everyday at work. I carry a Strider PT cc. Super smooth and light. Won't mess up your clothes.

Well it depends on your business, but if your business involves light-to-medium cutting tasks while wearing a suit I recommend the Perceval T45. It's super-thin, smooth, and somewhat elegant.

fixed blade in good IWB

Fixed blade neck knife under suit , hard to get to with a tie on thou

Anything with a metal handle shouldn't harm your pants, even when clipped on your pocket.

I would recommend any of the Kershaw Onions, specifically the Leek. Or a lot of Spydercos are available with smooth metal handles.

I was just going to say that. Though i would say they're pretty easy to get at with a button down shirt. Undo one button, slip your hand in. done.

Have to make it a thin one tough, dress shirts show a bulge easily. The tie will help cover it a little, but not much.

Generally when I'm in a suit though i take my good old Vic Tinker.

here is the little neck knife I have been wearing for most of the summer under a dress shirt

It is a dark side by Burt Foster

when it cools down and I start wearing a suit jacket I can go yo a larger fixed blade IWB
