Suits and Knives

If you are wearing a suit, why not consider a traditional styled stiletto?

Get a Mnandi. The clip should effect your clothes but you can take it off and it weighs about 1.5oz.

Of course the simplest thing to do is take the clip off of your favorite knife and call it a day.

However being knife nuts we are always looking for any sort of excuse to purchase a new knife so... It all depends on how much you want to spend. If you want something in a similar price range as the other knives you told us you carry I might suggest a Buck Waimea, BM Shoki, Opportunist, Sequel, Spyderco Leafstorm, Anything Mcusta...

If however you're looking to spend a bit more than I'd say get a CRK Mnandi with your favorite wood inlay (Mines Snakewood) and carry it in a CRK calfskin pouch. If the Mnandi isn't your style then check out William Henry's selection, they make a ton of nice gentlemens style folders and I'm sure you could find one you like.

Some google pictures...

Is there a way to wear a folder on my belt, where it won't rub holes in my suit, but still have access to the knife (something other than one of those leather pouches with a snappy flap to hold the knife in) in an emergency?

You can also clip a knife tip-down inside waistband along your pelvic bone. If the clip isn't too long, your belt will hide it. A slim knife whose handle curves down works nicely. Positioned right, you kinda forget it's there - sitting or standing.

With the Mnandi you can also use the slip case. I highly recommend it.

You could also do something that doesn't really wear out the pocket, like the CF on the Caly3 / ZDP.

William Henry knives are very fine and functional. I have both a T12 and a T10 in smooth CF; so no concerns about wearing fabric. Think of your WH as a fine accessory like a fine watch or pen - all part of the statement you make to your customers and associates that you are a worthy of respect and trust.

Of course, you can still slip a ZT into the pocket of your jacket if you want something beefy. :)

I took the clip off my Kershaw Volt and it rides in my right front pocket during the week while in the office. The scales are smooth and rounded, and it does not eat at my pocket from the inside.

I also carry a Vic Climber in my RR pocket next to my wallet.

Never had any problems.

Yeah, I used to wear cheap $400.00 suits too - but always carried any swiss from the 58mm to the 84mm in the right pants pocket or on my keys - a knife on your keys does not seem nearly as intimidating as one by itself - other choices are out there - also if you are wearing a dark suit - no one notices the black clip on something like a "Dragonfly" composite or some thing on that order - otherwise - do what you like!
Peace

I usually carry either my small sebenza clipped between my belt and pants or inside the waistband or I carry my spydie lava which is small and light and seems to work well.

The Spyderco Centofante III is another option. I think they advertise it as a gentlemen's knife. It's light, has smooth G10, and the blade is somewhere around 3".

Any nontextured aluminum handled knife would be fine. This is to say something like a BM 940, a Spyderco Police (the original stainless one), a Microtech other than a scarab.

Just don't get anything with a textured G10 like a BM AFCK...learned that lesson. The texture on the g10 of a BM 52 seems to be ok, but I haven't been using it long enough to say for sure.

I say this as someone who doesn't own a pair of pants that isn't dressy and made from wool. I haven't had pants damaged by carrying a pocket knife since I stopped carrying G10 handled knives. I have no idea if it matters or not, but I keep mine in my back pocket.

I'll that suit jacket pockets are not good for carrying dense items. If you're deathly afraid of messing up the pants, clip a BM Opportunist to the inside pocket of the jacket, you won't even feel that it's there, and if it does damage it, lining can easily be repaired.

I'm in a suit most days, and this is my EDC. No pockets have been harmed as a consequence.

For fixed blades I would suggest the BRKT PSK. With the leather pocket sheath, the clip looks like a pen clip and would not look out of place on a trouser pocket or a jacket pocket. Very small blade unlikely to scare anyone.

for folders check out the new spyderco FRN UKPK. The wire clip doesn't scream knife and the FRN should be easier on pants than g10 or micarta.

Try a traditional slipjoint in your front pocket. Who knows, you might enjoy it.

This...I came to suggest a 'pretty' Case knife...won't scare even the whitest of sheep...they are pretty robust and there are countless blade sizes and styles..

Get a Sebenza, a Ti Sage or a Ti Millie...I don´t think they will wear holes in your $400 suits...
