Suits and Knives

I wear shirt and tie every day - you just have to pick your gear.

I carry a KT P3AT in an uncle mike's pocket holster, Spy Delica 4 with pocket clip (no wear issues in 2 years) and a Blind horse neck knife.

I wear a suit or sport coat and slacks everyday. This is my solution on how to carry some of my favorite knives:

For reference the city knife is 5 3/4" OAL. Sits in my right front pocket and is quite comfortable and not noticeable.

how well would an ESEE 3 fit in one of these? Or is it more Izula sized?

I carry this ESEE Izula in a knivesshippedfree.com pocket sheath every day.

Today it was with a suit. Even if someone notices it just looks like a comb sticking out of your pocket.

I would love to carry my Izula on a daily basis. It slips into the pocket so well but living in California means having a fixed blade is a legal problem.

Strider PT CC. I dress up every day for work and that is what I carry. Smooth enough that it can ridea long with my cell phone and not scratch it.

When I need 100% concealment, I carry a Mnandi or small Sebbie in the CRK leather pouch it came with, and I put it in my inside suit jacket pocket. Otherwise, you can go IWB, which I do with my small Sebbies without problems.

+1 on the SAK or slippie idea.

some other folders: Fallkniven U2 and/or PXL

perhaps consider a fixed blade like an Izula or Fallkniven WM1.

I wear the spyderco sage 2 everyday in wool suitpants and i have had no issues with pocketclip wear on the fabric, it also slips into the waistband of my OR scrubs when I change clothes. A huge plus is that it is legal in the absurd 3" or less state that I live in!

I do a BM 943, I really need to get the split arrow clip and shine it up if I want the best look

I'd carry a 16oz ball peen ;)

I have to wear suits every so often and there's no good way to carry anything beyond the weight of a small slip joint comfortably. Anything too heavy feels very strange in a suit pocket.

If you're wearing a suit, you're probably not going to need anything too heavy duty anyway. I'd go for a small slip joint or a small folder. The small Boker Exkellibur goes nicely with a suit.

FFG D4 rides unnoticed in my suit pants RFP, no clip. I use it a lot for breaking down boxes while in my suit. The FFG D4's are lighter than the saber ground ones and also they work a lot better on cardboard.

SE Ladybug Salt rides in jacket side pocket, also unnoticed.

Wire clip spydie or Al Mar eagle/ultralight wont wear a whole in your pockets based on my experiences but if your still set againt them then;

Do you want a knife for defensive purposes or just for edc? Since if its to just take out of pocket to open a box then SAK or Opinel will just disappear in your pocket and wont scare people, if you need a tactical advantage then a la griffe in kydex seems like it would suit your purposes.

Hard to know what to suggest without knowing what you want your knife for!

My favorite knife when having to wear a suit has been the Fallkniven U2. It fits really well in the small pockets at the inside bottom of the traditional suit jacket.

Sir, I haven't even taken a look at the other answers, but I'll give you my honest, unvarnished opinion.

The first thing to do is get what some people call a dress knife. Definitely not in that category is a Spyderco Military or an Emerson Super CQC-7. Those knives will scare the natives!! :D

If you are really wearing suits that cost $400, and that you'll pay $400 for, start thinking of some knife that says "upscale." I'm sure you can find some nice folders that are nicely proportioned and that won't scare the secretaries, or some wimp next to you.

If you're looking for some specific recommendations, I could probably come up with a few.

Folderguy

I have to agree w/ Folderguy. When I wear suits I pocket one of my smaller Paul knives, they all have leather cases:

I drop a Benchmade Stryker or Spyderco Endura in my right jacket pocket. It lays nice and flat and you can't tell it is there. If I have to take my jacket off I just slip it in front pants pocket.

With this method you can carry whatever size folder you are accustom to.

Correction, I did find my 6" Cold Steel Ti-lite a bit to long.
