I really like that flintlock Chris...I've always loved the traditional black powder guns:thumbup:

Just noticed your 22/45 with a purple Tactial Solutions upper...yeah, I know "don't ask, don't tell" is still in effect:D

Actually, I really want to get a Trail-Lite for my Buckmark...the goal is to eventually get it suppressed for beaver control.

Yeah, Yeah I always hear it about the purple tac/sol, but it was set up the way I wanted, with the integrated rear sight/rail, the only one in stock, and up to a 6 month wait to order one in another color so purple it is. I can't say enough good things about this upper though, it is light as a feather and a real tack driver. I have a regular slab side buckmark that shoots real well but because of the browning's steel frame the ruger got the upper.

Yeah my fusil is a real looker and shoots good to boot, I haven't hunted with cartridge guns in a long time, first time you smell black powder smoke you get addicted to it. Chris

EDIT: Check out Gemtech, whisper quite and easy to maintain.

:DColor doesn't matter...it's performance that counts and I'm very impressed with thier barrels/uppers:thumbup:

The good news is I have a great Gemtech dealer just down the road and our CLEO has no issues signing off. It just sucks having to pay the transfer tax:barf:

I'm just not a big fan of the Charter AR7/Henry Survival Rifle; just too many reliability issues from what I've experienced. There are some good ones out there, but I've fired three different ones and all had feeding issues.

No doubt they are jam-o-matics - however I found on mine that the feeding issue cleared up when I cleaned the feed ramp really well - Q-tip and lots of solvent. I think lead builds up there and causes ftf. Still, they do stove-pipe and even auto-fire a couple rounds on occasion.

Still a fan of the AR-7 - there isn't a lighter .22 rifle available as far as I know. I'd love to see someone make something similar with greater reliability - basically a single-shot that weighs only 2 lbs or so. I guess I should look into the Crickett or Chipmunk.

Basically, like this but affordable:

Sorry about the poor quality the phone is all I had with me...

Not really into the theory of a "good" single shot or that bushcraft and tacticlol need to be mutually exclusive propositions.

I find the whistle is the one thing that really brings all this together, it says, weeeeeeee! I am in need of help but then again, things will probably be alright in the meantime. :D

We may have to schedule a Georgia WSS shooting event in the future...I only have two trigger fingers:D

I really wish Springfield/CZ would bring the M6 Scouts back. Even though they are a niche rifle, they are quite effective and well built.

That would be really, really fun. Just let me know when and where. :D

Here is my Benjamin 177. Cal. I bought when I was about 13. That was about 93, it has seen some use. Very accurate and powerful pump air gun.

The Crickett or Chipmunk would be the cheapest way to get a very light-weight .22LR. I really like the peep sights on my son's old Chipmunk and it sits right at 2 pounds 6 ounces...not too bad:

The Papoose is listed at 3.25 pounds...still not bad. Here's mine with the stock pouch, magazine and scope/mounts:

We'll have to find a decent range about mid-way, although Fort Gordon does have a nice range open to the public. We'll have to see if we can do a WSS bushcraft/campout with an integrated range day:D

I emailed Keystone on why they say on their website to use longs and shorts. But the guns are marked Long Rifle.

Here's whta they replied:

hello, I am interested in your cricket rifles. I saw in your FAQ that you say they use shorts and longs. I swear when I looked at them in the store they were marked 22 LONG RIFLE on the barrel. Can you shed some light on the matter? Are they made to safely shoot all types of 22 long rifle ammo?

Dear sir, thanks for the email. They are labeled as a long rifle, but shoot shorts and longs. However, they seem to perform better with the longs. Thanks and have a great day. Keystone

All we seemed to use was long rifles when I shot them....

Q. What kind of ammo can be used for the Crickett Rifles?
A. LONGS & SHORTS. Longs are preferred. NOTE: The Crickett Rifle is not designed to shoot any other size of ammo.

you guys got it all form neat discreet packages to neighborhood arsenals

Briarbow, love the TC absolutely, hands down my favorite single shot, great, great pistol/carbine!

Thanks for reminding that I want one, my wallet hates you. ;)

ROCK6, forgot to ask, what brand and where did you get the stock pouch for your Pappoose? Did it come with the exterior flint steel and mag holders or is that a custom jobby you did yourself?

Any firearm marked .22lr will fire .22 short, and .22 long ammo. However, some semi-auto's will not eject it.

Just DO NOT try putting .22lr rounds through a .22 short.

the biggest problem I see with the Crickett or Chipmunk is the safety - or lack thereof. Cocking the bolt is the only way to take off the "safety" and it's pretty loud - so you're either walking around with a cocked rifle or you have to hope your game doesn't hear the loud audible click. It's a great system for teaching kids safe firearm handling but not so great for hunting. Maybe I'm wrong and you can cock the bolt silently like a hammer by depressing the trigger and letting up on it once it's cocked? Even if that's the case it's a two-handed operation which is a lot of fumbling around.

I wish I was a tough guy and was comfortable walking around with the safety off - but I'm not :D

AAAGH how are you posting all these lovely large pictures, please someone pm me the secret so I can get in on the action.

But I wanted to share some thoughts.

First I have one of the Rossi Youth Combos and I love it. The 410 is easy to shoot and the .22 is amazing. I will have one of these kits in my truck from now on.

A box or two of slugs, a couple of boxes of bird shot and a couple hundred rounds of .22 and I should be set.

Stepping it up a little... I picked up a H&R 12 Ga for $50 used this week. I put a Limbsaver Slip on and a 5 round elastic shell holder on the butt and it is good to go. I shot it this weekend and was really pleased with the accuracy with slugs. Using the Silver Box Slugs from Wally World $9 for 15 rounds, I was able to put 3 rounds in the center area of a paper plate at 30 yards or so. I imagine that this one has about a 24" barrel but I plan on trimming it down a bit. I will also put one of those clip on fiber optic sights on it. I have one on my 870 and it is really effective.

The 870 is the Express Model with a Knoxx Stock and a frame mounted shell holder. A good shooter but I think I like the H&R better!

I have a Colt HBar with a 16" barrel and a match trigger. It is set up like an M4/Sniper weapon with a bipod. Sweet little rifle. As the weakest part of a weapon system like this is the magazine I went out and got 6 of the H&K AR mags and a dozen PMags as well.

Finally I have a Ruger 10/22 with a 16" barrel and a Choate Folding Stock. Very handy and a good shooter.

I enjoyed the thread and will try to post some pics later.
