"Survival gun"....probably a .20 gauge pump.

By changing chokes & ammo, I can cover anything from small game to deer and 2 legged critters.

continuing with the combo gun idea.... a Savage 24V .223 over 12ga, with a .22lr insert... you would loose some accuracy with the insert, but probably not as much as with the .22lr conversions for the AR.... this would give you a pretty good selection of loads...

My .22s. If I had to pick one , I guess it would be the Nylon 66.

I have that same gun! Nylon 66 that is! Do those things ever quit? Mine hasnt...some 30 something years old and i got when i was young and shot prob a million rounds through it.

A baikal in 30-06/ 12 gauge.

223 insert in the 12, 22's in the 223, pistol adapters in the 30-06, 30-06 to .308, sub gauges for the 12, ramset loads, etc etc, but WHY OH WHY?

That a woodcock? Taken with an AK-ish thing?

This is my second Nylon. Its like new. Traded a Ruger 10'22 for it.My first one was the Mohawk clip fed.

I don't own one, but I'm intrigued by this Rossi / Taurus 410/45lc

I have not heard good reports about the accuracy of these with 45s nor of decent patterns with shot. I also don't see the advantage of firing 45 colt in lieu of 410 slugs, the slugs carry more velocity and energy. A lightweight single shot in 410 in my opinion would be a better choice and a 20ga better yet. Chris

This would be a good option for me as long as there is elephant to kill. My Remington 11-87 Super Magnum. All composite, shoots 3 1/2" Magnum.

This seems like it would be a great, sensible choice for my region.

Nice trade - I grew up shooting a Nylon 66. Can't believe the prices they fetch these days. Excellent survival gun - bombproof, lightweight, great handling.

they messed up by not having a screw in choke tube like the H&R survivor.

If you reload you can make cases off of different rounds which means using different primers.

Look at the 450 Mongo round/concept. using 44 colt I believe heeled bullets with the metal "shells" so there is no jump.

I still don't like shooting squirrels with shot.

I agree about what you say about the judge concerning accuracy and patterning. I patterened a handgun with both and found it very diappointing. However, I would be interested in seeing your numbers on the .45 Colt. I did some energy and velocity comparisons several years ago because in Ohio you can only hunt with shotgun, muzzleloader, or handgun for deer. I was reading a lot about the .410 and wanted an informed opinion for my daughter concerning slugs. Going strictly from memory I believe I recall that a .36 caliber roundball had more energy (or maybe it was TKO)from a muzzleloader than a .410 smoothbore slug did. I believe a .45 Colt would have much more knockdown than a .410 and at a longer range. I would not hesitate to shoot a deer at 100 yards with a scoped .45 Colt handgun let alone a rifle. Few people I am aware of can even group a smoothbore .410 at 100 yards with a scope let alone recommend a shot. Thats not saying .410s don't have their place just wanting to see your reasoning. Thanks
