Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

Does anyone remember Guy slamming the forum, saying that S!K was doing just fine and was here to stay, and that we were a bunch of armchair quarterbacks? Paraphrasing, of course.

I seem to remember that.

1. The ability to reach thousands of consumers, with the touch of a button.
2. No internal business model.
3. Circle the drain.
Class dismissed.

At this point, my main concern is for the innocent parties such as Niagara Specialty Metals, Crucible and Peters which have been maligned by the S!K shit show over an extended period.

I realize that most all of the folks here see through the veil of b.s., but who knows how many have been influenced online and at YT by the running litany of false information proffered?

I'm sure they're just fine, and will be going forward, but I want them to know that we care about any damage done to their reputations which was neither warranted nor deserved.

I would say the benefit for those companies is that many who might buy the story that most in this thread don't are at best indirect customers of those companies and would often not know when of if those companies were part of the process/supply chain so their choice to buy a false or misleading narrative will have minimal lasting impact of those business if any. I will grant that Crucible has the most direct exposure to bad press this might have caused them as they are a known name in the supply chain as their steals names are brand exclusive but many companies using their steal have customers who will have never heard of SK and minimize the impact. I think NSM gets a break in that it is even lesser known in general how much of the CPM steal goes through them and you don't see an NSM name/brand stamped or advertised anywhere. Peters is sometimes but not always advertised as the HT company used but falls into more the same with Crucible in that those who know who Peters is and care the majority are likely not buying that narrative. I believe until the more direct customers of those 3 companies have issues selling their product or have issues with the work or materials supplied their business will continue to feed those 3 so fortunately there is a barrier here for them and this is a small fish in the pond trying to paint them as villains.

Just clicking around looking for new info I discovered that you can still buy a handful of Silky saws, Rite In The Rain products, stickers, patches, and t shirts on the Survive website but those are the only items available for sale. I wonder if those things actually get shipped/delivered or it's the same story as the knives. Interesting that they'd quit selling their own products (maybe finally and quietly admitting that they don't actually have product to deliver) but still have inventory from other producers available for sale.

This. Guy has consistently blamed others for his inability to fill orders, but at the end he went "scorched earth" on a couple of the cornerstones of the industry. A few YT personalities amplified Guy's BS to generate clicks... While I doubt that there will be much long-term impact to Niagara, Crucible and Peters, any impact at all is too much.

My impression is Niagara, Crucible and Peters tried to help Guy, gave him the benefit of the doubt, tried to work with him to resolve the issues. All for naught.

Seems like there was an endless line of people, customers, companies and vendors trying to help, willing to be patient. Even the most recent Youtube influencer seems to have acted in good faith towards Guy and Survive, seemingly with honorable intentions.

I'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you from the 39 employee-owners of Niagara Specialty Metals to everyone who supported us during this saga. Our knife business is rebounding from a slow 2023, and CPM MagnaCut remains our best-selling grade.

Blade Show 2023 in Atlanta was incredible, with the largest crowds I've seen since I started attending in 2009. We had many positive conversations regarding this topic. It was reassuring to speak with people in person and see their genuine happiness that things seem to be improving.

keep up the great work. we appreciate you participating in this forum. I love my Spyderco Magnacut Manix!

The boutique survival/Bushcraft crowd is such a small segment of the knife enthusiasts population, who, are themselves just a small segment of the knife buying/using population. So, the people who buy into guys cpm slander bullshit is an even tinier number than those who watch bushcraft knife stuff on the youboob instaface.

Yes, it sucks that good companies are being unjustly attacked. I think the damage is itsy bitsy tiny though. Think of all manufacturers and makers who cannot make enough knives to satisfy demand right now. How many of them use cpm?

Crucible, Niagara, and Peters will go on doing what they do because they are good at it and reputable people know that and want to do business with them. The same cannot be said about Survive! or Guy Seiferd.

Back at you, Bob. Thank you for taking the time to speak with, and share information with me...and make the information available to our community.
We are richer for your presence here. (And that goes for Crucible as well.)

The support you guys have is 100% earned. Thanks for being honest and professional.

I’m hoping for decades of more success for all of you.

Are we sure that Guy is really going to go away, rather than claw his way out at the dirt falling onto his head as he gets buried?

Based on the statement attributed to PT Barnum regarding the birth rate of suckers, I would assume we have not heard the last of this convicted felon.

Jon Heavy Set Tactical appears to not want to talk about S!K. I wonder how many S!K knives were purchased because he and his YT buddies promoted S!K?
