Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

Jon’s YT channel, in the comments of a “short” video he posted a few days ago.
Edit to add: F6 knife review video.
.... thanks. You would think he would have cleared that up before just pivoting in and starting to review other knives again. I had assumed that he had an update video out. Wonder how much money it cost him to learn the lesson ?

I agree. Jon made a big deal about this with all his YT buddies, and they shilled hard for him. Who knows how many $s their promotion pumped into S!K, and how many of those orders will never be filled. I don't expect any of these asshats has the integrity to offer an apology, but the very least Jon could do would be to explain what happened. As of now, unless you are checking this page, looking closely at comments in YT "shorts" or old videos, you would think that all is going just fine at S!K.

Jon did get access to the building and equipment and we all know Guy wasn't in there much. Wouldn't surprise me if Jon suddenly has a few "new old stock" knives to sell on his own. I know if I dumped some of my money/labor/advertising/any combination of the above into a deal like that and then realized I got scammed I'd want something for my trouble even if I had to run the machinery to make it. It's not like it was ever more than assembling kit knives on a mass scale anyway.

"IDK how Guy has maned to do this for a decade, should have been a televangelist or something"

Please tell me this is from a BF member, hilarious, I just sprayed the cat with tea laughing

Now he says - he never intended to manufacture blades.

What did he pitch 11 years ago?

In hindsight, look at the equipment and work tops, zero dust or wear.

Guy was / is an incompetent business owner. He never had a clue how to run a manufacturing and assembly company, and I doubt he ever really had a business plan. A lot of people threw money at him when he started his business, and he had no clue how to actually fulfill the orders. There are a lot of details, twists and turns to the story, but this is the foundation of it all... and that he is a liar and a con artist.

Just my opinion, but looking back, I think he is very smart and knew exactly what he was doing every step of the way.

The sad thing is, he actually can make a nice knife or at least make a nice design for someone else to make.

He taught me one lesson for life, never pay in full up front. If a vendor requires that I move on to someone else.

It's almost like Survive is to knives what JC Sports used to be to the Subaru community - i.e. good products but run by incompetent people who didn't deliver on time, and sometimes never.

I did that once albeit for a full custom folder from Neil Blackwood. First and last time I made that mistake. In that case it was something he had just finished that he offered me and then took 5 months to ship while he ignored me. I got it eventually, and quickly got rid of it. I have sent a few makers a deposit for book order customs that required exotic materials to cover those costs, not the upfront cost of the knife. I think, depending on what those materials are, is a fair ask.

He's not the first and won't be the last person in the knife industry who was capable of producing a good knife...but was of low character and integrity.

In my decades here I've come across and have dealt with several. (Have shown some the door as well.)

Respectfully, I totally disagree. I think Guy and Ellie started this business with zero management and and manufacturing acumen. They thought it would be easy money. The decisions they made (all the moves, not hiring employees, buying equipment they could not use, frequently changing suppliers, unrealistic design standards, etc, etc, etc) demonstrate this. When they discovered it was not easy, they lied and blamed everyone except the people that created this mess.

Well, PA Attorney General responded:

The Bureau of Consumer Protection attempted to resolve your complaint against Survive Knives through a voluntary mediation process. Despite our efforts, we have not been able to resolve this matter to your satisfaction and have reached an impasse between you and Survive Knives.

so, what happens next? do you know if there are any repercussions for S!K? Does this mean that S!K just ignored the complaint?

Seems that way. My buddy is an attorney, I’ll ask him what hoops need to be jumped through but my guess is it will cost me more than a few beers on the stoop/bottle of bourbon that he usually charges for advice.

Unless the state brings civil or criminal charges, it would probably be up to the individual to sue in small claims court...for restitution, legal costs, (if any), and any damages claimed as a result of Survive's failure to provide the product paid for, or a refund.

(This assumes that there was no relief provided by the credit card company or PayPal, etc.)

The state should do something. There's a provable pattern of fraud here. Chances are that they won't though because government agencies like to prosecute when there's still assets available to pay fines ( then if a few cents are left over the defrauded might get a couple dollars) and Guy is obviously broke.
Can't squeeze blood out of a turnip.
