Survive! knives

UPDATE FORM SURVIVES FACEBOOK PAGE

April 2014

1st Friday Production Update

In Production:

GSO-3.5: Handles are finishing production and kydex is being pressed. Preorders will be delivering and regular ordering will be open soon.

Necker II: Blades are done with production! We need a few weeks to get handles and sheaths produced.

GSO-5.1: We have a very limited number of handles from the last production of these and then they will be waiting for more materials to be available again.

Limited Edition GSO-4.1: Look for more information around the end of April.

GSO-5: These are expected to finish production in the next few weeks.

GSO-4.1 and GSO-10: There are a lot of blades that didn't make the cut because of cosmetic issues. Those will be getting a make over and be better than ever.

There is a lot of steel getting cut for a big SURVIVE! summer. Where ever you go this year, your SURVIVE! knife will be a great companion.

The GSO 3.5 will be great, but is there a good way to make the spine jimping myself?

Does anyone know how to tighten screws without marring or damaging it? I know, Dumb question

Not dumb at all.

Use a driver that fits as closely as possible into the 'valley' of the screw against the 'cliffs', and wrap the driver head with a thin layer of parafilm or other cushioning material that does not compromise the fit. Place a small drop of penetrating oil or solvent (in the case of glue) around the screw (NOT in the valley) to lubricate the threads as much as possible. Apply sufficient 'downward' pressure along the driver straight into the screw valley and turn. If the screw does not rotate with the force, apply a sudden jolt of torque (as with a hammer drill) to try overcoming static friction, but be careful as insufficient downward pressure will allow the driver to climb out of the valley and marr the screw. Good luck.

To expand slightly, if the screw has parallel sides to its slot, as firearms do, you need a screwdriver with sides to the blade that are parallel.
Just in case a few readers aren't familiar with the difference between "gunsmith" flat tips and the standard flat tips that you get in your hardware store, gunsmith screwdriver tips are hollow ground. The sides of the blade are parallel at the tip. A typical hardware store screwdriver blade is tapered all the way to the flat end of its tip, with the result that it will not bottom out in a gun screw slot, which always has parallel sides. This is why standard screwdrivers so often slip out of gun screws.

Here are a couple of pics. I've been really happy with their performance. They all reside in different "kits".
