Survive! knives

Worth adding. I have the GSO 5.1, 4.1, and the Necker too. Love Survive! Knives. Incredible blades.

Here's a pic of my new SK. This is before I used it. It performed well. I was wondering how it would compare to the 4.1. There was no hard use today. Just basic fire prep. It performed as well as my 4.1. Perhaps long term it wouldn't have the same edge holding, but for what I used it for today I noticed no edge degradation. Just did some feather sticks and some notches to break some of the longer pieces that were just over thumb sized. So no hard work today.

That is a heck of a nice blade you've got there. Is that the FDE coatin and how does it hold up? Ordered my 3.5 also in the FDE coating.

Yep, it's the FDE coating. Since I didn't do much with it yesterday it cleaned up and looks like new still.
I have a GSO6 with what I thought was FDE but maybe I chose a different color for it because they look completely different. Since the old site is gone where it showed the options, maybe it was a different color. At any rate, it's in a kit and hasn't really been used outside of small things so I still can't really say how well the coating holds up. I suspect it will do better than most coatings we have on various knives though.
I do like that the SK series has a sharp spine instead of the rounded. Even with the coating I was able to get some sparks off a ferro rod.
I have the ferro notch on the 4.1 I use.

Haven't read all 17 pages of the thread but I came to ask how the Micarta reacts to being handled? I read the GSO handles are clear-coated so they retain their original color and won't turn a darker, dull, solid color like the ESEE Micarta when handled.

I had NOT read anything about the GSO micarta handles being "clear-coated", would be a pretty silly endeavor to 'beautify' the handle of a user while detracting from its actual utility! BRKT is one of the few companies that clear-coat and it is another reason I do not buy from them.

Regarding Survive! handles, there are images of stained GSO-4.1 scales. I hope the stain is holding up because micarta, being resin-based, is quite resistant to permanent staining beyond the thin layer of loose fabric at the surface. My Survive! knives have had oil, sweat, blood, etc. soaked in and washed/dried out later so the scales look the same as the day I bought them. If your handle darkens from sweat/blood/etc. just scrub it a bit with dishsoap and a nylon brush, dry, scrub remaining spots with alcohol, dry. Done.

I coloured my handle with black RIT-Dye. Came out fine! Its now almost a year later and I see no changes in colour.
I washed the knive multiple times and Still looks the same.

Had these all out today. Those GSO's are just beautiful. HAD to show off that nice collection of steel, especially those 3 near the middle. :D

That's good to know. I have natural canvas as well and I'm thinking about trying red Rit dye on them.

:thumbup: Thanks for the update. Unique and wicked :thumbup:

I've dyed several. Make sure you clean those scales very well with hot soapy water. Dish soap works best wit ha nylon scrub brush. Rinse VERY well and let dry completely being careful not to handle them with bare hands after cleaning.
Any oils from your hands left in the fabric of the micarta will dye differently and not take the dye as well. You don't want to end up with splotchy scales.

Appreciate it HS. I've only put it off in an effort to find more information exactly like this.

Been wanting a Busse too for a while now but one question about the warranty. Esee is Guaranteed "forever" and Busse is Guaranteed for "life". Didin't really understand what Ankerson was saying.
Forever means my grandson has a warranty on an Esee I own now. Life meands life of the blade I assume which would mean the same thing technically but that Esee wording seems more powerful.
So is it "life" of the blade or "life" of the owner?

You might have a better chance of finding that info in a thread pertaining to Esee or Busse knives.

Hi folks, as Guy mentioned before there are only 3 of us right now so I'm going to try and help him out over here as best I can. I'm not usually a forum user so please be kind, haha.

We just sent out a newsletter to let everyone know that the mid-size leather attachments are now in stock.

GSO-3.5: The first of the sheaths have arrived and we are expecting handles to be here by the end of this week. We are really looking forward to getting those out so as soon as we have all the materials GSO-3.5s will be getting put together and shipped out.

It's not so much that they are a different color but an entirely different type of coating. In the past, we were using DLC coatings which are actually ion-bonded to the steel. Right now, the SK series are all Cerakote applications to offer the S-7 some protection from weather.
