Survive! knives

I think this thread needs to be closed and have a Survive! knives sub forum...there's just too much going on here.

Seriously. This thing is a mess.

I sent a message May 30th, I was asked what our website is right away but haven't heard anything since.

Doesn't the handle tend to catch on things? I tried wearing a Dozier knife in it's standard horizontal sheath and it always seemed to hitting something.

So one of my buddies used my GSO 4.1 this past weekend and is in love with it. Is there any place with them still in stock? His only preference was for the bow drill divot and ferro notch.

There will be some GSO-4.1s available on the site in a few weeks otherwise there are a few SK-4s still in stock. If he doesn't mind some blemishes there are a few options available in the Factory 2nds area (just know that we don't have any sheaths in stock right now).

YES. I tried it ONCE and found it obnoxious, just snapped these pics so folk would know what to expect. Again, that's the 4.1 not the 3.5, and I don't have a protruding gut, so some might find it less obnoxious than others, but it ain't for me. I use the extension piece as seen in another photo, on the SK-4, and in the video. Otherwise, I hook the knife in my pocket as seen in one of the other photos.

So can you please tell me how much my sheath will end up costing me? I figure $20 sheath, $10 shipping then is there a handling fee as well?
Will they be in stock before the tired discount is over on the 15th?

Before we ever came up with the sale idea we were planning to change the way we sell sheaths. In the past, all orders came with a sheath with the customer picking out what color they wanted. But we were seeing so many people wanting leather or making their own sheaths, we figured it would be beneficial all around to give customers an option. We don't like senseless waste and if you get our knife and end up getting a different sheath then not only are you left with this extra wasted sheath, we've all wasted Kiah's valuable time and energy. We already run that guy pretty ragged. Then consider that some of the times when our knives are out of stock it is only because we don't have sheaths for them, so how many people aren't able to get a knife because someone else has a sheath that they didn't even want (but still paid extra for)? In the future our knives will be available with the option of sheath or no sheath. Of course if we get overwhelming amounts of questions and/or comments about the practice we will go back to making sheaths a required purchase.

We were going to wait and list models once we at least had sheaths to offer but decided to list them so people could take advantage of the tiered price discounts if they chose to order without the sheath. Perhaps we should have waited on listing those, but then people would complain that we didn't have enough in stock to justify the tiered discounts (as can be seen in earlier posts on this thread and facebook comments).

Well, I think I answered everything. I guess that teaches me for trying to take a sick day on a Sunday. :)

I stand corrected. Makes total sense, thanks for the clarification Ellie.

wolverine_173, your account doesn't link an e-mail or PMs, so please drop me a line in you need a sheath now and black is acceptable. I think I may hit-up leatherman to hide my muddy SK-4

This has been my experience as well. The only knife that seems to work well for me there is an Izula 2. Everything else is too long, and exhibits the same issues as your Dozier.

Did you get your S!K order issue worked out?

Be nice. :) I started this thing in February because the last Survive! thread got out of control with people wanting to know when they were getting there pre-orders. I would love it if Survive! Had its own sub forum. I would also love if all the pre orders would get delivered. I think that would go a long way towards keeping this thread on track so we could focus on cool shat like scandi 4.1s and carry options.

Thank you all for your input.
I have read all of the posts on the blem 2nds and do understand about the out of stock sheaths for the 4.1, also the change to make sheaths optional.

Great vid & info c.grolim

Kiah, thank you for your honest commentary.

Ellie, I’m assuming that the Sagewood Gear Scout for the 3.5 is not currently offered but you are hoping that it will be eventually.

I've gotta do some more back and forth thinking on this. I lean more toward discreet carry...however that'll work out...thanks again.

To add up in this multi-topic thread, I bought a lionsteel M7. I just couldn't wait for the GSO 7/7. Let's see how this Italian made knife stacks up against my 20cv 5.1!

Comparison review, please? Especially comparing the cutting geometry and the ergos. That M7 looks very nice, compelling piece of cutlery like most of Molletta's designs...

Definitely, but i have no clue on how to post pictures. as for the blade geometry, it's a bit thicker than my 5.1 but there's more width to it so it might be a good slicer.

I've emailed them regarding their HT protocols because the tang is a bit similar with scrapyards and D2/sleipner are not really on the "tough" side.

Also they claimed that their sleipner steel has more edge retention than M390 so i'm very excited to test both. although, this M7 that i have does not have the same sharpness as the 5.1 out of the box. i'm thinking of emailing Jdavis882 or "stabman" here on the forums and have him do the tests and publish it through youtube or here.

Much appreciation to Kiah for the recommendation! :) Thanks to you too chiral.

Here's what most of the sheaths are going to look like, I'm patterning a pouch sheath for the 4 along with a randall style pouch. I really like these knives! I hope there will be a manufacturer forum in their future, there appears to be a demand.

This is the 5.1
The belt loop is longer than it appears in the photo, I guess the angle was a little off.

Unless I am in an activity where I am needing my knife every other minute, this would not be a viable option for my tendency to only get my knife out sporadically; thus, I dangle.

I think the Necker II is going to be popular for this type of carry. When we get the sheaths in I will be testing that theory.

$20 for the sheath, $2 for shipping. I think we will be extending that tiered discount until we actually get moved, which is not going to happen by the 15th.

That's some truth. Unfortunately, this past weekend ended up being mostly unproductive with the local shop being closed when the machines decided to start acting up. But things seem to be figured out and Guy is pretty focused on getting the last of those preorders shipped on Friday. The premium handles have been waiting for machine time to get the brass milled, the brass is being joined with the slabs now. We've been told they will be shipping out next week, with next day service.

Personally, I'm looking forward to a sub forum simply to help with some repetitive topics and keep information organized. I know that would help us out a lot as a small company trying to teach people about SURVIVE! and its products. Many of our newer customers would benefit from the information and wisdom on this thread but it's hard find the useful information, especially if they have no interest in signing up for yet another website, username and password.

We got a GSO-3.5 sent out to him a few weeks ago so it is only a matter of time until they are available.
