Thanks Standard. I tend to pimp out and mod my own knives. I've done some for customers too but almost all of my knives (fixed blades and folders) get modded so they are unique.
I can think of two that are not modded. My Benchmade 761 and my CRK Nyala. Although I'm tempted to replace the scales on the Nyala.
That burlap changes the character of that 3.5. I REALLY like it. Gonna make a great camp knife.
Now I've never seen a bk2 like that before! You are quite the craftsman in a diverse set of medium!
Wait, so is that your Nyala in the sheath with the cream-colored eyelets? Very nice rig. I always liked the Nyala, but was never a fan of the scales. It would be a great candidate for new handles
You read my mind about the scales. They look cool but they're not to comfortable to me and I don't get why the handles don't cover the all of the steel.

Man no kidding about that 3.5! I've wanted to try out a Fiddleback with burlap scales but now I just want a set of those for my GSO 5!!
First, blasphemy!! A GSO 10 and 2.7 or necker II is the only acceptable solution
Second, I really like that ESEE belt clip on the GSO 5. I never wore my ESEE 6 enough to find out, but does that metal clip eat at your belt?
I had no idea you made handles as well! I've never seen burlap used before. Can you consider that micarta?
I think burlap on a necker II would look like a peanut, ha!
It would be good to set you up with measurements for the whole GSO line.

Yes, it's called burlap micarta.
Here's what I think I know so far. In order of texture.
G10 (many variations of texture)
Paper Micarta
Canvas Micarta
Burlap Micarta
Of course all of them can be textured and/or patterned.
It's my dedicated hunting knife so no hard use, only processing game. The handles are superb when wet with blood, etc.
Dr. Halestorm is blowing up the thread
Great looking work all around.
Linen micarta would be between paper and canvas, right?
The roughest handle I own is Kabar canvas micarta for my bk9. Great grip and texture. My ESEE 6 linen micarta is not as textured, but still works just fine. SURVIVE! micarta is somewhere in between. It also feels great. I'm looking foward to seeing what their linen is like.
Agreed. The only knife I have with burlap micarta scales is a Viper Tank. I've only used it to process small game though - a few squirrels and one rabbit - so not a lot of work there. It certainly feels comfortable and grippy in the hand, but like most variants of micarta mine stained. Did you find that as well? That's one of the main reasons I generally prefer G10 instead; seems like it's less inclined to absorb things like blood. I don't mind when my knives have some "character", but red spots all over the handle tends to freak out some people.
The CRK Nyala is my dedicated hunting knife and has normal micarta. I just did the burlap yesterday on the GSO 3.5 so we'll see how it holds up to staining in the near future. I can see the burlap staining because it has very large fibers in it and when left rough for grip, could leave room for the fibers to stain.
I agree somewhat. The edges of the handle are well rounded so the shadow box scales reach right to the edge of the beginning of the curve if that makes sense. It's comfortable to use for what I need it for. It's my dedicated hunting knife so no hard use, only processing game. The handles are superb when wet with blood, etc. I have the 3.5 for hard use camp chores and the Junglas when something needs to be chopped or batoned.
The design lends this knife to specialty tasks like what I use it for. I'm not sure but I don't think it was designed for hard use and would have some hot spots when worked hard.
