Sword Posting Mega thread? What sword are you....carrying? Swinging? Chopping/cutting with?

That Walloon-hilt is probably my favorite "pattern" as both a horseman's and pedestrian sword. It needs to come out of the shadows! 🙂
When I received it, I was surprised at how much it reminds me of a 19th century sword of mine

A little more hilt weight but the dynamics very close (except a thumb ring).

Something with a stylized guard is high up on my list, i have not expanded my repertoire that far yet. Havent decided quite what to get yet.

I was big into the fantasy stuff in my late teens, early 20s and this was always the grail for me. Finally picked it up in 2019 or so. Still a massive fan of fantasy novels, but the swords have unfortunately taken a massive turn towards film and TV show models, not a big fan there.

I have a meager selection of swords, but I hope to change that soon. Here's one I've got, a Cold Steel rendition of a Blücher Sabre (by Windlass):

I try to keep it handy, but I don't get many chances to lunge at French Dragoons these days. I ought to give it a proper cutting edge.

I've also got a blade from an old Gunto sword that was pretty badly notched and removed from its handle before it came to me. I'd like to re-polish the blade and give it a new Tsuka and Tsuba at some point. One more project for tomorrow.

I actually have the persian style windlass sabre, which also has a cold steel version haha. Cold steel has managed a few gems in the sword world over the years.

Slowly entering into this avenue. Started with Choppers and Slashers. At what size does a sword begin?

My progression.
Late Spring I'm grinding a sword for my daughter graduating highschool. I liked the feel of it so much that I already blanked out another. I'm currently working on the two-handed big guy. I tested it out last week on some trees. It needs a handle and a little more edge work. Next to my "No Sizzle " chopper for reference.

As I work and finish my daughter's I'll post more.IMG_20250112_145647388.jpgIMG_20250509_141815556_HDR.jpgIMG_20250906_162353365_HDR.jpgIMG_20250906_145419857.jpgIMG_20260404_185202562.jpgIMG_20260404_190404432.jpg

When in doubt, just call it a hanger ;)

18" seems to be a common modern term. A lot of old think would regard it all a knife and a big knife. Others look at a civilian vs military definition. The latter, generally looking at the 18", like the saber bayonets, or the 1832 foot artillery thingy they list as a sword. Where a Frenchman would call that a glaive. :)

(an 1831, their 1816 was our 1832)

Since the 1832 was issued in a cutlass context for the Navy, then we look at cuttoe as a term becoming cutlass :) A Grerman would call those hunting cuttoe hirschfangers.

There was an ancient debate here, iirc, Ken Cook wrote a law :D

At the point where stainless steel stops working, youre probably hitting dagger territory, and what is a dagger if not a small sword.

Hi guys, I've posted some stuff on my subforum here that hasn't made it to the sword area.

One is this blunt longsword for a Buhurt competition world champ:

RSLtNEb.jpg

Blunt blade and guard are titanium alloy, pommel is steel provided by the Buhurt competitor.

It's big. Here it is in action:

Another is this blade based on a Seme, a type of blade from Kenya:

laP3N2G.jpg

Forged from Ti alloy 6-2-4-2

Here is a futuristic tanto forged from part of an SR-71 Blackbird airframe's titanium. In Japan a tanto is considered a nihonto and falls into the category of a short-short sword:

yo9Eapi.jpg

It was actually pretty big. Here is a video of the making of it, and a take-down video:

Here is a sword-like machete:

And a titanium alloy san mai short sword/huge dagger:

This ring dao was a really good one, I thought:

Wow absolutely fantastic post. I lean more medieval for sure, but i love Tantos, and that one is a beauty. And i was just reading an article earlier today about chinese swords, so that dao is sick. I'd love to get at least one or two Jian/Dao replicas one day.

I've also read a handful of xianxia style progression fantasy novels in recent years, and the main characters almost always use these types of swords, so always fun to see.
