Hossom did some two hand espada that had similar handle profiles. Nice! There must be some of his longer blades here somewhere.

For me, it is pursuing different mines for different treasures. I miss my A&A bronze fitted stuff but I find myself looking at Windlass again.

The renewed Black Prince has some excellent proportions

The Royal Armouries 14th century is another temptation

Is anyone familiar with this type of wide katana? And would anyone be able to speak for the durability or sturdiness of construction?

I have not seen one of these in the wild, only in fantasy or anime sources. There is nothing in the image you have posted to suggest it would be weak or badly built, but I would want to see the shoulders of the tang (nakago) to have some idea of what the stress there would be like in cutting. As with all tools, balance is everything. This sword may or may not have a practical balance, it may or may not feel good to you, it may or may not be traditional design, and it may or may not be a good example of an established historical pattern.

But it IS super cool looking! :D

There is a store back East that specializes in selling swords and especially katanas. And they have some videos of this exact sword cutting double thick grass mats. There is a name for it but I'm sorry I don't understand the terminology. They talked about the one with the Fuller and the one without. And how they are used in cutting competitions for cutting extra thick grass mats. But to your points about balance and so on I am not knowledgeable and it would be interesting to hold one. If I get into Baltimore area to visit some folks I might swing by the store there and take a look at some in person
