Tacticlol Knives II: The Return of Ridiculous

I don't know if this one has been mentioned, I did a search but didn't see it. I just stumbled upon it today while researching a knife. I'd call it "survival/tacticlol". It's the X-9 Para-Bow. The folding knife forms the handle of some kind of slingshot crossbow. The knife is detachable.

It reminded me of this Aitor brand knife with a scabbard that converts into a crossbow.

I remember seeing that top one in a US Cavalry catalog in the early 90’s - I wanted that thing more than I could describe. I still do 😂

I’m sure Mr Hibben has contributed more than we know to the development of fantasy knives.. He’s definitely been the alpha of Mall knife store display cases since the 80’s. The undisputed king of concept tacticool.

What do you thing the HRC is on this “reaper karambit”
So sad . Looks like he's gone totally over the edge .

I used to sorta like some of his work .

the mall ninja aesthetic always didn't make much sense to me...

it's much the same with expensive clothing, or when the imitator brands try to act like their logo is somehow a mark of quality, and insist on making it bold / very visible / often large... it just comes off as tacky, and never is a sign of quality...

actual expensive quality clothing doesn't need to rely on a logo to tell the rest of the world... they use actual cut & quality fabrics & perfect seams to show it

A guy named Jim Gullette was the designer for Paragon X-9 and the earlier Taylor Skasa Knife. In practice you could never get those arrows to shoot right, they always went high. The Paragon also had problems with something stripping out, I forget if it was the platform or the butt of the knife, but one used to strip out quite a bit. It's hard to find just the X-9 knife, and it's really hard to find a complete one with the extra stuff.

They were expensive too, the Taylor was around $150 in late 80's money, The Paragon was mid $200's in the mid 90's.

Aitor also do the jungle king with the slingshot.

It was the knife 18 year old me always wanted.

Our granddaughter called to tell us she’s bringing her new boyfriend over. She added, “ Gramps he’s really into knives!”
After the intro and small talk, he said “I’d like to show you my fav, I’ll get it from the car.”
Cool, must be a fixed blade! Maybe his Grandfather‘s Randall from Nam…or not…

Please gift the man a proper knife...and tell him to get rid of that bat-crap.

As a kid I remember using regular throwing darts as ammunition for a slingshot. You'd be amazed at how hard it is to get them out of a barn door afterwards...
