Talk about a Busse Folder.

Lock backs and their variations are very strong but aren't they a little antiquated? For me a folder is a cutting tool only. I love Spydercos and I am especially enamored with the new RIL Military. The Hinderer Lockbar Stabilizer makes up for the inherent weakness in a Walker Liner Lock or Reeves Integral Lock which is well described in this screen door analogy over in the Spyderco forum.

ETA The Hinderer Lockbar Stabilizer is like putting a pair of vice grips on the screen door piston when it's locked in the open position.

Until Spyderco changes their warranty I really don't care what they say over there about anything. ;)

If they don't cover their knives they don't have confidence in their products IMO. ;)

I wasn't referring to Spyderco, I was referring to different locking mechanisms. My point was there are better locks than frame locks in a hard use folder. ;):p You stick with Busse and Cold Steel and I'll stick with Busse and Spyderco.

What do they know about hard use over there? Slicing cheese, opening mail, cleaning fingernails and playing with them watching TV isn't hard use....

Spyderco doesn't make any hard use folders..... And even if they did they wouldn't be covered so it's a mute point.

It's Busse, Strider, CS and ZT.

And chopping, battoning and prying with a folder is precisely why I don't think we'll see a Busse Combat folder. People will do what it takes to make it fail. No need to make this ugly. :)

I can chop, pry and batton with my Strider SmF and ZT 0301 no problem and I did it on video. ;)

I can with most of my CS folders too and have many times over the years. :)

It's not something I would do every day, but I have and know I can and they are covered. :D

Any folder can be broken if you try hard enough, even Strider and ZT 0301's can be broken, but it would take a lot to do it. ;)

Getting a CS Black Rhino and new model Recon 1 here soon and will do a field test video on them once they get here like I did with my Strider RW-1 and ZT 0301. :)

I guess I need to make my points more clearly for you. :)
First, I never claimed Spyderco had a hard use folder. I was only referring to conversation about different locking mechanisms. Conversations I'm familiar with as a Spyderco fan. The OP mentioned a Busse Folder and a Frame Lock. I mentioned the Busse has a patented locking mechanism that would be stonger than a frame lock. Second, I pointed out that a lot of the popular hard use folders incorporate many different designer's ideas to make the folders as hard use as they are. This is true of every folder you mentioned. Busse may not want to release a folder incorporating so many different design ideas, they may want it to be a 100% original design. I also believe that a Busse Combat folder would be one of the most rigorously tested folders of all time and it may be difficult for them to keep the same warranty as they do with their fixed blades. That may or may not be true. I personally don't believe that a folder is meant to be used for chopping, battoning and prying. If you hate Spyderco so much you should take that conversation to general discussion. This conversation is about a Busse Combat folder. :)

It has been more than a few times. ;)

All people like me got was knives are ment for slicing etc (Standard fanboy responses for when something goes wrong with their pet knife companies knives) all the while they talk about how strong and awesome they are.... LOL

Heck I have put $35 Buck 110's through more than I did the Militaries and they held up and that included beating on them with a framing hammer hard.

That said....

Yeah Busse has a lock already and I do agree they would be tested and I will say again if they are as strong as the Striders and ZT knives I don't think there would be much of a problem.

Striders Frame Locks are done right believe me. ;)

Hello Sir, Spyderco doesnt cover their products? Is this new? Of the many Ive owned, 2 had issues and they were replaced for $0. As for your :what do they know about hard use comment, I disagree and would think you would have a bit more class than to say something so insulting. Sorry you had a bad experience. Spyderco's are quality matter separators (not sharpened prybars), that and they do not lie about being war heroes.

Im in for what 230 said, add an overtravel stop of some kind (careful for Ricks patents), drop point not clip point, and make it heavy duty. A full milled titanium frame would be sweet, kinda like the Lochsa. One piece adds rigidity. :)

...all this one lock is stronger than another is moot considering I have never seen a framelock fail, and I bet nobody else has either. Chances are you will break the blade before the lock, so lets just wish for one with a 100% track record whether it be Jerry's design or Chris'.

I like Strider Holes personally, but thumbstuds work for me. :D

I refuse to buy another Spyderco until they change their warranty to cover their knives....

I will never get over burning almost $300 on 2 knives that were not covered. :grumpy::mad:

You were cutting bolts with the knife man! :)

I prefer a hole or stud to a flipper, but that's just me. IMO the oval hole / stud combo on the SMF works well.

Let's not start this crap up again.

Yeah I know and it was soft metal and the other one was snapped on wood but it really doesn't matter how they snapped, no I didn't break them on purpose either as you know, the point was they did and they wouldn't fix them. I never told them how I did it either, it was Oh well that's not covered sorry.....

You can disagree all you want, the point is I was out about $300 due to 2 snapped blades and it wasn't covered.

And with the name like Military and as much hype about how great they are you would think they would be good for more than slicing cheese. LOL
