Tc barlows & mind blowing sheath give-away**WINNERS ANNOUNCED**

Wow! You guy's are really generous!! Thank you all for being so very generous!!!

I'm not much of a collector. I like to use all my knives. But, I would think that any of the limited(less than 50) GEC's would be collectable, some more than others. They are all beautiful.

As for etchings or graphics on a TC barlow blade, well, like some of the other folks I prefer a clean blade. Since I use my knives the blade etchings usually end up rubbed off.

I like the TC Barlow design because they are beautiful, well crafted knives. I like clip or spear point blades. I love long bolsters. One thing I think would be great is a Daddy TC Barlow, around 5in closed. That's my favorite size of barlow knife.

Why do I think I deserve a TC Barlow? Well, I don't guess I deserve one any more than the next fella. But, I don't have one. And, would love to have one. I've been a bit late a few times when one was available. I love carbon steel. And, I would put my TC Barlow to use. I hunt, fish, garden and cook. That TC Barlow would get lots of use in my hands. And, I think TC Barlows, and barlows in general, were designed to be used. I would use it!! And, I would marvel at every spot of patina, and every memory that came from holding her in my hands. And, one day, my son would enjoy those memories and hopefully use her with the same love of the blade that I did.

Charlie - that rumour sounds absolutely Awesome.Thank You so much for coming in and joining with Stephen,John.Paul,Barry and myself.

This time- and this time only Sir you are let off the infraction :D

Folks - I would just like to say that this is one very generous GAW. Some esteemed members here giving away some awesome knives.:eek::thumbup::D

There will be some lucky lucky winners here!!:)

I would trust that all of them, less one, will indeed deliver your prize, but, I worry about one of them, parting with his beloved Charlows.

I would not hold my breath for that prize coming from down under:

A future picture of my friend Duncan:

Sue - you bring that back! I told you I was just playin' sneaky tricks on them forumites!!:eek:
I was going to say it fell off the ship, into the deep Pacific!!

:D:D

Lol - oh man...this is good stuff Primble, I am sure that the winners of THIS thread will have a wee bit more chance of receiving their knives - compared to - well you know....we dont like to use that term here in Traditionals.... but that - that unclean...lowly other give-away thread...you know the one, you know? :p

:D

Wow what great opportunity this is becoming! 4 charlows 2 slips and a future charlow. What!?!

John - Welcome! It's awesome to have you on board. And, wow, a long-pull two blade ebony clip point! What a wonderful prize, and one that I know will make some first time Charlow owner, very, very happy.

Barry - a 2nd hand-made sheath? Very generous of you my friend. Don't give them all away though as I have to get on the customer list for one of those before they're all gone. :)

Paul - I'm glad that you were able to stay strong in the face of Primble's Svengali act. He can be quite hypnotic with those Charlows of his.

Duncan - I left the house for a few hours this evening and came home to discover that not only had you forced Primble into a humbling submission, but that our GAW had gotten so much better with the addition of John and then Barry's additional gift; and now I understand that Charlie is also joining in as well? Outstanding! Thank you for your leadership my friend!

Stephen Sir - yes, yes we have wiped the enemy all out - even though they are but grease spots on the road, their failed leader still taunts us, like that little tiny wee wee see through prickle you just quite find - the fight is indeed over, we rein! :D

I DO NOT OWN A TC BARLOW!

I don't have many traditionals, and the ones I do have are older Case knives. I don't know a whole lot of current models, but I think Northwoods knives may be collectors knives some day.

I don't really care for etchings, but I think a compass image would be neat.

I like the TC Barlow because it is a clean looking knife with no hard edges.

I don't think I deserve to win this knife more than anyone else. But I do know I will treat it and use it right. It will also be going to a good home if I do happen to win.

This is not a post!
Therefore, I do not have to deny that this is an entry!
No foul, so no infraction, right??;)

There is a rumor that a new Barlow is coming out early next year! I want to add to the rumor, that a prize has been added to Duncan's GA!!
Duncan, defender of all the freedoms that make America great, even though he's a Kiwi! To add a little more to this burgeoning GA, I hereby (just a rumor, mind you) donate a new Barlow, whatever it is, whenever they are made!!
We did not have this conversation!

(And I was in the front of the costume!!!):p

Welcome back and glad to hear about the rumor ...........

Well, I am apologetic about making this my first post here (and only second post ever at BF), but, I am the type of person that a) attempts to learn as much as I possibly can before opening my mouth, and b) wanted to get to the point that, before I posted, had something worth saying. I think that point a has been reached, but I am still contemplating point b, but that is for others to determine.
Before I answer the questions, I think a bit of an intro and background is in order, as this will for better or worse, function as my "hello"; I feel it would be disrespectful to do otherwise. 6 months prior to now, I had absolutely NO experience with knives at all, other than cutting my finger badly enough as an 11 year old that my dad took away the first knife that I ever had. Dad was NOT an outdoors man in any way, shape or fashion, but he taught me to treat people decently; and with that, I am amazed at the kindness and fellowship that I have read about, and am now joining, in this particular sub forum. What a wonderful group of people you all are!
Back to the topic of traditionals, and knives in general; I started all this a while back with some modern pocket knives, and while I like some of the modern offerings (particularly the Kershaw Leek), the real focus has become slipjoints. The "gateway" knife for me was a Kershaw Wild Turkey lockback with Pakkawood covers and a VG-1 blade. From there, it has been all uphill on the learning curve, and downhill on the bank account balance!! I started with a #61 in bocote, and it has gone from there. I read, read, read, and learned, learned, learned. I went from never sharpening a knife 6 months ago, to using whetstones to put a shaving edge on steel. So much more to learn!
Anyway, here are my answers, and thank you all for the opportunity.
1) So far, I think that the 15's are going to be prominent, but for me, the 85 is the pattern, especially the SFO 85 EO from Mike. I was obviously not around during the original offering, but I loved my Tidioute 85 2 blade enough to track down (and pay a bit too much) for a beautiful blackwood single blade liner lock. What a knife, especially with the matchstrike long pull!
2) I tend to use my knives as much as possible, and really enjoy watching the patina form, so a blade etch is pretty inconsequential. Even though I have been in this game for a short time, my garden and strawberry patch has really caused every knife I have to be a user in some way. I like that part of this hobby; beautiful tools, but, still tools that reveal their true beauty through use.
3) I am absolutely in love with wood; I am a musician as well (bass, both electric and upright), so wood just speaks to me, quite literally. Love both spear and sheepsfoot blades, but not a crucial determinant for me. Wood wood wood for me! I appreciate good design, particularly when function is not compromised by it. I think the Barlow pattern more than lives up to this requirement.
4) I deserve it because I like knives.
A lot.
Just like everyone else here.
Good company to have!
Thanks again for this most generous opportunity.
B.
Edit: I am not a current owner of a TC Barlow.

Hello all, nice to meet you again. Dropped by a few times and the virus seemed harder to fight! Voila!

1 Q:What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?
A:Sunfish? Or John Lloyd Mammoth Jack.

2 Q:What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?
A:I think the graphic on the bolster, “TC” is already loud enough. Simple yet elegant.

3 Q: Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?
A:It reminds me of serious workhorse that is also a fashion statement. The bolster maybe? Or the exotic handles. I like the appeal of a patina’ed high carbon blade. These are the first ones that caught me:

4 Q:Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).
A:I would say since I haven’t own one, hence I’m here trying my luck. I have to pry my grandpa’s slipjoint that he used for 15 years and convinced him that that was a love at first sight. I have that folder with me every day, in my bag as my backup. I traded him with another Buck and he was happy enough that I appreciate his choice. Coming to think now, TC Barlow is a heirloom material that I hope to pass on to the next generation.

Stephen Sir - yes, yes we have wiped the enemy all out - even though they are but grease spots on the road, their failed leader still taunts us, like that little tiny wee wee see through prickle you just quite find - the fight is indeed over, we rein! :D

I wouldn't be so sure it is all over, my friend. Just waitin' on my man "Spark" to browze through. You might not know us Kentucky folk stick together when riled or taunted !!

I have even been offered up support from north of the border !! ;)

It might pay for you to look and see where General "Spark" is from. I will say no more for now! You might say this could very well be the:

Silence before the Storm !!

S/General Primble

P.S. - where did that gorgeous pic above come from - what thread was that  - that is where I want to go !!!:D

P.S.S. - also during the wee hours this morning and under the cover of darkness - I am sorry to inform you that I get a PM from one of your main lieutenants, wanting to come over to my side - if I would offer up some gratuities.

Well - I just wouldn't have that you know - him being a traitor and all. I say once a traitor - always a traitor !! :grumpy:

I did, however, throw him a bone! :D

There are going to be some regrets from the soldiers in your camp :o:o - I will guarantee ! ;)

Thanks to all for your generosity.

The only Barlows I have are the cheap shell handle variations (plus one Queen/S&M) and it sure would be nice to own a quality knife in the Barlow pattern. If more are done (and why shouldn't there be), I'd like to see at least one more run with the pen secondary blade in front of a sheepsfoot main carrying an old turn of the century type etch (20th century, not 21st century). I guess the thing I like most about the Charlow is the TC stamped bolster. Bolster stamping has always made a connection with quality for me.

For me, two knives from the Great Eastern brand stand out as possible future winners. The #48 Improved Trapper and the #82 Dixie Stockman are both very nice takes on a couple of classic traditional patterns.

As for why I deserve to win? To paraphrase a previous post, I don't feel any entitlement here, just a strong desire to own one of these classy high quality knives.

And the epicness of this thread just keeps getting epic-er (whatever!). Great thanks to Chief John and Barry for their additions. What a place . . . :)

As promised, here are both knife slips for the GAW alongside my favorite TC Barlows (Not Included).

GO HAWKS!!!!!

News Flash - Preparations being made, with knife content too:

P.S. - The way Evan and me have this figured - when the dust is all settled - due to your extreme generosity - we might be the only ones left with more than one Charlow. :D

Evan just snapped up two more TC's while you all were watching our thread.

Barry - sir - you should just offer up those knives, as well - my friend.

W:eek:W John!! I bet Primble is shaking in his boots now!! Nukes!!:eek:

Thanks for your generosity John and great photos as always!!:D

Blimey, a feller takes a couple of days off to go walking, and you little scamps are up to all sorts of mischief! :D  It's going to take me a while to catch up! :D

Wow, you guys are so kind and generous, and I've been very lucky to be the recipient of your generosity before. So please, not an entry, please, I already have a few Charlows, which I love very much :)

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?

I think all Charlie's SFO's are going to be collectible in future. Heck, they are now! :D

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?

I think my favourite is the first. For the future, maybe I'd like to see a 'Real Lambsfoot Barlow' etch, but then that's a whole new discussion! :D

Well done, fellers, great work, and good luck everyone, particularly those who haven't yet handled one of these stellar designs

Jack
