Testing Banner Ads - it's not a bug, it's me screwing things up

There are a couple forums I no longer go to because of ads. One I cut way back on just because of ads. The other I really liked reading (survival-doomsday type stuff) but stopped going at all because of having two computers getting hit with a bad virus. Only able to save one of them. Heard that virus came from the banner ad system they had running.
I know Spark did address this a while back and the one here is clean.
 
I hear voices coming from the banner ads. They are telling me to do things......make the voices stop.
 
I also heard that banner ads have been causing an artificial shortage in .22 long rifle ammunition.
 
BF doesn't have that many ads. This place is tame... I've seen ad disasters. It made me wonder how the sites kept and attracted traffic considering how off putting all the visual clutter was.

Same here... I won't use a site if it's too cluttered with ads. Not having to see ads is a nice perk of the paid membership.

Some people are just here for the conversation and that's fine - it's not my intention to twist people's arms into paying for a membership. On the contrary, if I could I'd make every aspect of this site free to everyone. But, unfortunately the bills are high and I'm not a multimillionaire so I have to do what I have to do.

This would suck for me at work, the firewall prevents me from logging in but I can browse without logging in.

Before anyone says I should be working and not browsing BF, I have lots of dead time.

The slow that I noticed was way before the ads.
If this keeps up, we'll send a fortune on gas driving to town, hanging out with non-knife people, drinking expensive coffee at coffee shops with free wifi. :D
 
So, it is now the 14th, and I'm still seeing the banner ads, as well as in in-post ads. Any idea when they will again be disabled for subscribers?
 
The ads have actually been pretty interesting. They are a bit annoying on my phone as I don't have much screen realestate, but I don't browse via phone very often. No complaints here.
 
Is it possible, as a paying member, to switch ads on/off at will while logged in? ...once the testing is done, obviously. With my 30" monitors and 2560x1600 resolution on each, the ads are small enough to not bother me and they even interest me on occasion.
 
Hey guys sorry for the delay - I got into Vegas yesterday and pretty much passed out. I'm going to try to get these disabled for paying members ASAP - I don't seem to have my notes here, so it's going to take a few hours of undivided attention on my part. I'm going to try to have it done before SHOT is over, hopefully tonight.

Just a FYI, I just got a pop up, the only thing open was blade forums and I was not clicking on any of the ads.. and just happened again while I was typing this.. there is a brief sound pop, like one of the ads is trying to play sound and gets stopped then the pop up comes up.

The slowness of this site comes & goes for me. No rime or reason. The ads just made it worse!

I ain't going to town! I'd rather stay out in the woods. :D
 
Hope the testing is over soon and things go back to normal, I understand that it had to be done but these ads are truly irritating regardless.

It does vary. I have a truck site I go to that is also slow. Back in the day, it was the news sites that were slow to load. Today I found rain slowed things down, then the modem and the router got into fight and wouldn't talk to each other. :eek: :D

I LOL every time the Chat with chicks from the Ukraine ad pops up. Can I have a written excuse to give to the Mrs.? She's not buyin the Blade Forums made me do it line anymore. :D:D:D

So you're in Vegas (aka Disneyland for adults) at a wicked awesome SHOT show and you're willing to devote a few hours of undivided attention to site maintenance?? All for us?? :eek: You, sir, are a far better man than I! :thumbup::cool:
