Texas Camp Knife!

Here's a quick iPhone pic until I can get more time and better photos.
Thats a #18 on the top and a sak pioneer on the bottom.

I bet the #18 would fit on top of the #98 blade...

Is it orange or yellow?

This one is burnt orange. Tapatalk wouldn't load the hires picture. I will try to post some nicer pics later although I'm a very poor photographer at best. I'm sure lots of high quality pics will come in this week as people receive their knives.

I was so excited i dont know if i clicked burnt orange or yellow. So so happy i got one, imgoing to let it be a surprise. Cant wait will post pics when it arrives

Howzabout the whittler version, any word on who will have them and when?
Personally, I have no interest in all the extra openers & punch, but the 3-blade whittler I'm eagerly anticipating.

I don't think there's a thread for the Whittler.. somebody interested should start one.. It's next on the production schedule so hopefully sooner rather than later. I know one of the SFO whittlers is already done and shipped, but there's zero pictures of it on GEC's site.

There was a bit of a rush to get the Camp knife done for the Oregon Club, and for yours truly. The whittlers will start the finish process soon. In fact a few were shipped to Roy Humenick, so he might have some at the Oregon show. My order will likely be shipped in a week or so - too late for the show!
Sniff . . . . .

Sooo, if anyone is having buyers remorse please hit me up!

I check all the distributors about 5 times a day and two have already said 'out of stock'.

Is there any hope at all for securing one without the cloud shield or cattle shield?

Photo courtesy of Parke1 but I couldn't help smiling when I read the label on this one. I agree with what P. and Charlie coined up for this label and love that the BF emoji was used as well :D

Jeepers, Dan, that knife is BIG!
It almost doesn't fit in the picture!!

:D
:D

As usual, Charlie, you and GEC created something magical here. Time to go hunt up another! :D

This might be the prettiest of the production model Texas Camp Knives, GEC's limited run Smooth White Bone:

Compared with my 66 'Calf Roper' for size:

Looks like the TX Camp will be the only 98 with these covers, which might make 'em scarce. This one will be available to a lucky buyer at the Oregon Knife Collector's show.

That is certainly one heck of a knife!

BUT, the cloud and cow head shields just kill the looks of it for me.

The shield Waynorth chose on the other hand is a masterpiece! I cant keep my mouth from dropping every time I look at one.

I love that there's a reference to Charlie's canned whole chicken that he posted a picture of!

Welp, I got my #98 today and it's been a pure joy to own. The overall size of the knife is intimidating at first, but not overly huge. I think the size will lend itself for carving tent pegs, marshmellow sticks, firesticks and such. For as much mass as there is to the springs and liners the opening on almost every blade is a comfortable 6, the leather punch being a bit stiffer. The knife immediately went into my pocket and not uncomfortably I might add!

I immediately put it to work by chopping down a couple of small limbs. The factory edge is really phenomenal on this one and every blade is tight with no play. Silky smooth walk and talk too! The leather punch is probably the least useful of the blades, but I'm finding ways to utilize it, tonight it scewered some pineapple! I think in the long run it will be a perfect tick impaler when I'm out in the woods. I was also able to test the can opener out and it preformed masterfully!

All in all I love this knife! The white bone scales are the most attractive in my opinion and the cloud shield is deceivingly big. In pictures it appears a bit small for the knife, but it hand it suits the frame perfectly. I've been begging Mr. Howard to do a camp knife for some time and now I can thank Charlie for pushing the pedal to the floor!

Well done all who were involved!

P.S. I have some comparison pics with a #23 pioneer and a #56 dogleg if anyone is interested.
