The $100 Traditional Knife Challenge

$30 Buck 110, $10 Mora, and then splurge on a knife I've never had but always wanted - $60 Case SBJ Chestnut. When your house explodes, you gotta enjoy the little things in life.

I'm kinda liking this answer... Ed J

Sodbuster and a small high carbon fixed blade in the 3" blade range.

Though I ALWAYS have 4 blades on me , so even in the event the house is toast , I still have my John Lloyd sinlge blade small trapper, Boker lockback , small D2 fixed blade made by me ( and a non-trad Strider PT ) , as well as a Officers ACP , 2 Fenix lights , my Camera bag and a complete back up of my all my data on a pair of 500 gig laCie Rugged HD's in my camera bag , and yes that kit leaves with me everytime I leave the house , even just to go to the shop out back :D

I would buy 100 cheap knives from China for $1 each. I would then sell those cheap Chinese knives for $9.99 turning my 100 into $999.

I would then use my $999 to purchase 999 cheap Chinese knives for a $1 each. I would place those 999 knives to local truck stops wholesale for $7.99 making a total of $7,982.

I would then use my $7,982 to purchase 7,982 cheap Chinese knives for $1 each. I would then sell my 7,982 knives whole sale to Walmart for $5.99 wholesale, making a total of $47, 812.

Finally, I would take my $47,812 and purchase 63,749 cheap Chinese knives at a bulk rate of 75 cents each. I would then spend $15,000 for infomercial airtime. I would sell my 63,749 knives for $19.99 on the infomercial...... but WAIT! Call in the next 10 minutes and I would sell the knife for $15.99. Upon selling my 63,749 knives for $15.99 each (plus shipping) I would have $1,019,346. That way, I could replace my house, support my family and enjoy rebuilding my knife collection.

Alox Farmer $25
Husqvarna hatchet $40
Carbon Mora Clipper $12
Carbon Opinel #6 $10
DMT Diasharp $13
Total $100

This will cover 100% of what I need a sharp piece of steel to do for me.
Edited because I changed my mind

I'd head over to K-Mart and get the $39.99 Buck 110 / Nylon Sheath / Buck 425 combo pack. The Buck 425 would be "peanut" enough for me for the time being. I'd sell the sheath on ebay for $10 and be in for $30. Then .... Buck 119 for $45 at Wally World, followed by the best SAK or Leatherman I could get my hands on (ebay, etc) with the remaining $25 (SAK Huntsman Plus, Leatherman Fuse or Blast).

Genious. Amazing.

Is this a "favorite knives" thread in disguise?

Can I buy a rough rider and replenish my stockpile of bacon with the remaining $93?

Can I save the $100 considering if i am away from my house at any time it is likely that I have a knife in my pocket and a fixed blade in the car?

The closest knife shop to me is about an hour away. That's like $20 of gas there and back. That means I only have $80 to spend. So can i order online? But wait, my computer was destroyed in the spontaneous meteorite, so i can? But if i can, does shipping count?

Can I account for the fact that a Buck 301 would probably survive a meteorite?

Say one spends his $100 on his knives. Should we take notice of the fact that his wife would probably kill him for spending money on more knives after loosing their house?

If i were out fishing, and I received news that my house was destroyed, can I keep fishing?

:D

Victorinox Rambler--$20
Victorinox Tinker--$20
Ontario RAT-1--$30
Spyderco Kiwi 3--$20
Rough Rider Half Whittler--$10

I'd go buy a BRKT Little Creek for $85. It's all I'd really need.

But I'd find someway to feed the slipjoint monster that sits on my shoulder everyday.

Buck 110 and Case Medium Stockman Yellow CV

That would make a great combo at a low prize level... I think

Kind regards!
Andi

4 bucks for a kitchen knife for gardening and woodworking; Ten dollar for a rough rider to keep in my pocket. $5 for the leather to make the sheath and pouch.

Cheapest choice to last the three years I bet.

If thats all I had, I'd get a Queen D2 sodbuster (about $35) and then have beer money! :D

I am pretty sure I have a couple of those survivor 301s. Not sure which disaster they were in. It may have been an earthquake in a file factory...... 300Bucks

After I stopped screaming and shaking with terror at starting over my collection, I decided upon:

used buck 119 $30
vic tinker and classic combo pack $20
CV chestnut peanut $38
carbon opinel #9 $12

...then I'd sell my shoes and glasses so I could buy even more knives

Boker Gnome - $30
Benchmade Griptilian - $46 (I recently bought a new one for this much)
Rough Rider Whittler - $8
CRKT M16-10Z - $16

if this is a rebuilding your life scenario, rather then the end of the world/zombie apocalypse scenario
why would you need more than a Sak (your choice based on your lifestyle)??

wenger SI, or Alox Farmer and...??

i suppose if your a big hunter type you'd want a fixed blade, but then again i would imagine your guns got destroyed too and it will still take you the 3 years to rebuild your finances to the point you could replace them.

there is always the "i want a pretty knife" thing
but if life has hit you with a meteor, i wonder about priorities if your spending extra money on pretty knives :p

that being said, i'd be prolly be one of those folks, much to my wife's dismay :D

Assuming having to start over completely from scratch, and going by local Hawaii prices, I'd have to say I'd take a Kabar 1217 with stacked leather handles for $65 and a Buck 110 or something from Kershaw with the remaining $35.
