This is a very dangerous practice. You risk permanent damage to the spring that will not be covered under GEC factory warranty. This practice is simply abuse.
Yes, GEC slipped up letting some of these through; they should not have shipped to me. I do not check the knives for fit or function as this is the factory's job at QC. If I checked each knife I would be accused of "cherry picking", not to mention the time involved in opening, checking function and F&F, and all the other issues that some of you have found. Then, after checking, I would need to re-oil and re-package each of the 350 knives. All this for very little to no profit? Give me a break.
Thank you Blee! There has been a lot of complaining to me, and it is mis-placed. Please, please wait for instruction on how we will handle the sticky punch problem. It will likely involve returning the problem knives to the factory for warranty work. If you bend or break the spring, that is not covered under warranty, nor is any other abuse of the knife.
Have a little patience people, please.![]()
I don't have a dog in the fight because I did not purchase this knife (yet at least...). And it is a shame if you are receiving angry messages or emails over something out of your hands.
I will say that it seems like everyone is being VERY civil on this issue on this thread. I don't recall anyone blaming you or Charlie for the issues, but occasionally voicing their displeasure at GEC for allowing the knives with issues to get through QC. I personally appreciate the comments on how different guys "fixed" their issues though because IF I do end up getting one of these, it is good to see stories of how the problems were corrected without sending the knife back to GEC and playing the waiting game.
Patience is definitely a virtue, but I would hope that most Knuts out there would try flushing joints and all that before they send theirs in for warranty work. If this solves most of the issues, then it will limit the load on the factory and possibly stop anyone from contacting you and Charlie about the issues. I've found that slipjoints without halfstops from GEC tend to need more cleaning than those with them because of the constant pressure on the spring and hopefully that will cure the majority of the reported issues.
