The 2024 F**** K****?

It can be many number of fine companies but GEC is the best in my opinion. The rat race to get one is a pain for many and not worth their time or energy. “If” we have a knife and “if” it’s a GEC it gives the members here an outstanding shot at getting one.

Also GEC all about guarantees that all the knives will actually be sold. Would hate for someone to be stuck with a bunch of knives that are not selling.

I’d be happy with just about any knife or manufacturer but a hobo knife is a definite pass for me 🤷. I’m sure that many people would be happy and that is fine. This knife is not about one person.
I gave up trying to buy GECs other than the forum knife years ago. I refuse to pay 3x on the secondary market. GEC forum knives always seem to sell out and they're usually very nicely done to where few people have issues.

My favorite forum knife (that I do not have) is the 2020, because of that sweet ram's horn. So, if we were voting - which we are definitely not doing - I would vote for more horn.

But this idea of the forum knife offering members easy access to a non-flipped GEC is solid, in my book.

Myself included. Plus, gec just hasn’t made anything along the lines of what I like in a long time. Makes it easier to not get caught in the hype.

Unfortunately I came late to the dance so it is still all new for me,you been around for awhile so you got to get them at retail more times then not,it is nice that the forum knives are usually great knives and we all can get them at the same price.

Oh yeah, by all means we should sign up for more of this action.

Another horn handle might be enough to get me to quit buying the forum knife every year.

I agree. I got most of the ones I have when you could go to a site and order anything from the last year or so, generally. I’ve seen some knives selling now for 2x retail that I recall sitting on dealers shelves over a year. That makes it even harder to pay the mark ups lol. It was a good time, yes.

It's mind boggling when I go through all the old threads and I have probably went through all the starter threads of new releases being more laid up then out and about lol,and more than a few patterns hung around on shelves for an extended time which now fetch top dollar .the 29 was viewed as to fat and stubby and cattle knives had to many blades etc but I find the patterns that have known blade rub usually come in at lower costs.for me it doesn't bother me maybe because they are the only ones that I can get at retail, but don't get me wrong I prefer the craftsmanship to maintain be a no rub finished product.

Pity Mike can't get his Lamb Foot project off the ground with them or Lionsteel, but what with the recent storm that destroyed his town etc he'll be pre-occupied with other more pressing & less trivial matters.
Huh? I hadn't heard about a lambsfoot project. Or maybe I have and I've inhaled to much paint fume this week 🤔

I originally put forth the suggestion of a bushcrafter Victorinox with saw and blade only. But the rumor is Vicotrinox is no longer going to do SFOs. So now I'm unsure. I would put my vote behind someone besides GEC, give someone else a chance to shine. Maybe ask Buck to do a two blade 303 to match the 301 from a couple years ago?

We could always go this route...

Mike had the idea of a Lamb Foot in the pipeline using a modern style&manufacturer about 3 or 4 years ago but due to world circumstances- I suppose- it could not get off the ground?

As for the warping pictures shown, I have heard of one other example too, never welcome but not a bad average out of c 400 knives....Plus, it was strongly emphasised at the time that if Ram's Horn were chosen then Mike was not going to be responsible for returns due to the known potential of Horn for shrink etc. and coming from an overseas manufacturer. But all in all, the 2020 knife showed really good QC and interesting variations in the look of the handles.

I'm lucky to have 2 examples of the knife and live in a VERY dry winter environment , often below 18% humidity and they have not misbehaved. Nor have any of my numerous French horn handled knives over the years. Poor performance from English knives and the one American Horn handled knife I had. It can be a tricky material if not cured properly and over a long period, quality of the animal could play a role too.

Thanks, Will

I think Mike had some personal circumstances going on, too. Fingers crossed his Italian lambsfoot still happens and sells like hotcakes, after I get mine cheap.
I'll take my 2020 to church today, now that you mention it.

I wish they'd just tell us what we're getting.

Every time we open a page, we see this:

“This is it, the last of BladeForums 2023 Traditional Knives. If you got one of the first 600 don't buy another of the 'below 600' ones, but the others are open for you. The rest are fair game.

Serial # less than 600, 14 pieces available, for people who missed the first offering. One per household, don't order if you bought in the first batch please, give others a chance. $200 ea“

This indicates that Spark is still stuck with 14 of last year’s F***’ K*****. That’s a hit, even at cost.

While I admire his restraint in not selling them off to flippers, I can’t help wondering if it dampens his enthusiasm for this year.🧐

My dad was visiting this weekend so just getting caught up.

I've caught, cleaned, and eaten just about every species of fish in the eastern and midwest US, and much of Canada. I've never used a fish scaler. How/why are they used? How do y'all clean fish? Do you cook with the skin on? I cook trout with the skin on, but no scales there.
The only time we descaled was smallish pan fish like bluegill. Ones too small to get a good fillet. Descale, run knife from back to front through belly, chop off head, remove guts, and cook em whole 😋

Mike started a thread on this in 2021.
