The 2024 F**** K****?

Anything you say? 🤔

Anything.

I know a lot of people are die hard GEC…

But honestly the Jack Wolf Knives are amazing. Fit and finish is leaps ahead of GEC. I own both so I know.

If we could get a group buy for one of those models and the price came down a bit. I am sure everyone would be happy with their purchase. Even you die hard GEC fans. You should at least be open to trying one JWK in your lifetime.

I’m open to any brand making us a forum knife. In fact I have the Italian made forum knife Mike Latham helped us obtain a few years ago. A Jack Wolf would be great. I only specifically mentioned GEC as they have come through for us the last few years. I wish I would grabbed the Buck stockman a few years back too.

I would want one for sure.

Posting to follow the thread.
A lot going on for us so far this year, but it is starting to settle down....

This group has come up with some beauties and I figure that will continue to be so.

It is my understanding that Buck is no longer doing SFO's. It's too bad since I would love to see a Buck Forum Knife.

I have heard that Queen is now owned by SMKW and they have moved production back into the US. Perhaps they would be interested in a Forum SFO?
I would love to have a new Made in USA Queen. My first traditional as an adult was a Queen. I gave it to my dad and he still carries it.

I don’t think it has so much to do with people being GEC diehards as the fact that they’re the only traditional manufacturer both able and willing to make us a knife in the quantity required, and the forum knife has traditionally (no pun intended) been a traditional knife.

We did have a “modern-traditional” forum knife in 2020, made by Viper, which was a nice enough knife. The problem I see with Jack Wolf (my own personal opinions aside) is the price. The rule used to be that we tried to keep the forum knife around $100. That rule has definitely been bent in recent years with inflation, but JWK prices would be a huge jump.

We had a Buck forum knife a few years back, thanks primarily to a significant effort by a member/dealer who, if I remember correctly, is no longer in business. A good reminder, actually, that the forum knife doesn’t just happen. We can all talk about this all we want, but someone has to be willing and able to put in substantial amount of work to make it happen.

I haven’t followed that much, are those being made by Bear & Son? Just looked at a couple on SMKW’s website, they must be if they’re actually made in the USA and available at the prices they’re selling them for. For me that’s about as appealing as a Rough Ryder forum knife (which is to say, not appealing at all), but of course that’s just my personal opinion.

I was looking into this as well last night, and I agree that it is probably Bear & Son. Personally, I would be pretty interested in a Bear & Son forum knife, because that raises the chances of a stainless steel knife that I can actually carry without it rusting from my (somewhat excessive) sweat. It could be a fun user. But I agree that Bear & Son doesn't have the kind of quality control that is going to satisfy folks here. I think back to how many complaints there were on the Buck knife a few years back, and I shiver to think what the reaction would be to a Bear & Son knife. This is a very demanding crowd, and also not a huge crowd. That really limits our options when it comes to makers.

I have wanted to try a knife from Daniels Family Knife Brands for some time (ex. Tuna Valley or Titusville Cutlery). I guess I'd prefer GEC to do the forum knife though.

I can't really see myself buying a China made knife, let alone a China made traditional. Could just be me though?
Has Cooper Cutlery come along enough that they could potentially be an option? Those Dollar Knives were pretty neat looking.
In my opinion, yes.

I don't think a $300 "traditional" folder manufactured in China is the right way to go.

I help run a pipe forum and we select a Pipe of the Year annually. The comments from the membership have little (if any) sway on what we do. There are not many companies that can or will produce 100+ identical pipes with specialized stamping on a budget the majority of folks will pay. There's also the practical matter of how to pay for the pipes, and shipping, and how to deal with QA/QC issues.

I imagine this process is much the same so while you may all have strong opinions, the managers have limited options and a lot of responsibilities.

I don't want sound facetious but have any you guys noticed the prices of everything hiking up like Sir Edmund Hilary and Sherpa Tenzing on crack?
Maybe just maybe it's time to possibly consider a FK price increase as well.. ?

I thought we did that last year?

I think it's time to possibly consider a custom engraved Opinel.
