Price is pretty steep for this one. I think I'm reaching the point where buying a forum knife is no longer automatic, but must be a well-considered decision.
It looks that way. I did not see that bit before I made my post.I agree. Are they going with the amber bone though?
never met a GEC I couldn't use, Ed.Seems a lot of guys/gals/youngsters have gone to buying the GEC name rather than the knife pattern throwing practicality and usefulness out the window.
If you want to take a trip back even furtherI understand that it’s difficult to buy GEC these past few years. Gone are the days they would sit on the shelf and we all got to choose the one we wanted. And for a long time, GEC lived on this forum and a couple others. I’m not a social media person myself, but that seems to be where all the hype started.
New people are supporting the traditional category and I think that’s a good thing. GEC seems to be the top rated US made traditional knife and the price is a reflection of the demand. Overall, I’m happy to see a GEC made forum knife.
I’m on the fence as I’m not a big stockman fan. For $250, I have to love it. If I jumped in and ever decided to move it along, I’d be worried about recouping my money.
How many collectors existed back during caravans and outposts? If you want to take a trip back even further
To trading caravans and outposts where you'd buy one of these for about .80 cents or so and have it last a few decades.
Now ebay resellers are asking $190+

Man, I just polished off my counting monocle and put it away, you count themHow many collectors existed back during caravans and outposts?![]()
I have a sneaking suspicion that the secondary on these will be lower than retail, atleast at first.
This seems very unlikely, but if anyone plans (or later decides) to sell your 2024 forum knife (especially at lower than cost which is almost certainly the morally right thing to do), since we are forum pals and Goldies please contact me first.
I have a well thought out top secret plan to buy all of the 2024 forum knives and destroy all of them except for my lucky number (which must also remain a secret), and I will name it Highlander and put it in a little display box in my closet so I can enjoy it.
Anyway, let me know. Thx!
I hope I’m wrong. I don’t think I will be though. I’ve never bought one of the forum knives with the hopes to make money off of it, but if I were to go down that dark road, I don’t think I’d start with this one.
I think it’s a sad state of affairs to see traditional knives always with a focus on secondary pricing.
If I wanted an investment I’d just put $250 into my ROTH IRA. If I want a knife, I buy the knife. Simple as.
IMO it’s 97.8% just the inherent FOMO of limited release things. You buy a knife you think you’ll like, or in case you might like it and it may be hard to find later, then you find that because everyone else is doing the same thing, “boy howdy sure enough, that was a good investment.” For some then (no judgment but it’s a slippery slope) it becomes tempting to do it on patterns they don’t personally like, which further heats up the market. It’s also legitimately fun to horse trade and try new knives, and nobody wants to be the one who is realistically out $10 after a catch-and-release, when it feels like everyone else made $10.
But really, $250 seems a fair price for a cool knife and I personally didn’t hesitate for more than about 15 seconds before putting in my pre-order. I’ll enjoy the knife because I’ve personally been hoping to try a GEC take on a big stockman for a long time. Whether this one is TOO big remains to be seen. I guess we’ll find out in a few months!
Hey, what do I know. It might outpreform the S&P 500 lol…youd be surprised how many people treat these things like an IRA instead of what they are
