The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Sorry, season 2 is coming to Netflix and I didn’t know 2 & 3 were already out. I don’t have “cable” so not up to date on show as they’re aired 🤪
😞
I think there might be a dedicated KoD thread. Jo was on Season 1. Jonny 91bravo 91bravo and his wife were on Season 2 or 3? Dan Keffeler and Mecha were on one of the Seasons... there were a couple other CPK'ers and Bladesports competitors too.

I can’t remember what season I was on lol. I think season 2 or 3 and Jeannie was at on 2 or 3 as well.

I have a difficult time sharpening knives, even using a KME sharpening system.
Do you recommend any simple hand held device that even I could use.
I am one of the unteachables.
Thanks

Are you forming a burr before moving to the other side?

When i started sharpening, I would never form a burr and nothing seemed to get sharper

Yes and follow videos etc. for the KME system, but unless the blade is a tanto with straight blade geometry, it doesn’t turn out well and sending them out for sharpening is no bueno 😁

I don't really know. I've always been able to sharpen on oil stones and I don't know how to teach it.

I like a big aggressive diamond stone to get to the burr and then an Arkansas Stone to refine it.

It is not a long process. Usually just a minute or two

A simple way to deal with it, Jason, imho would be to raise a burr on both sides of the blade, as you've been doing.

Get a Spyderco Sharpmaker from amazon or one of the dealers. It comes with 15 and 20 degree settings and is simplicity itself to use.

Use the 20* side very lightly, alternating sides, to remove the burr. The 20* angle is close enough to Nate's edge to leave you with a good result in short time. The ceramic should work just fine for you.

I think this is the simplest and best answer to your dilemma.

Thanks and will look into it!
