The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist should we expect another one of your sneaky Friday one-offs this week? I’d like to help someone out with a proxy but I’m hesitant in case you drop in something unexpected. I’m jonesing for a SC 🤣

Nope. Today's sale will be 10 light choppers and field knives.

Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist Now that choppers are being produced, are you still planning the limited Behemother chopper run you previously slated for 2026?

Yeah, I'll probably make a few. I have steel for it. I designed the fixture to accommodate some extra length.

I haven't found the answer to this anywhere, so here goes.

Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist is the "hard and thin" D3V in the #BAD IDEA FK2 the same as the tweaked version of D3V in the FK3? If different, what's the difference? TIA!

No, this is more evolved. We have, obviously, been tweaking heat treats for a while. As we've gotten larger, we have been able to tweak the steel production process as well. The tweaks to this steel go all the way to the very beginning of the steel production process, allowing smaller finer carbides which play better at higher hardness. We buy a lot of 3V now and are able to massage it a little bit here and there for different applications.

Awesome, thank you for the answer! I knew you'd said you had input to the melts more recently, so I wondered if this new tweaked version differed from the OG hard and thin. Thanks!

Where would you be able to score one of those extra k20s?
Thanks

Going to try to have some daggers here in October. Although I guess we'll see how that pans out
