The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Nathan, I’m loving the k20. The feel, balance, length, and the fine details of engineering the design. I’m sick of cutting air and currently have no enemies to attack. The weather is getting nice and I would love to use the blade for impractical purposes other than war. What are some safe materials I can cut with low risk of damage? Would 2x4s in a stand be an option or would the impact compromise the design? Sapling trees an inch or two thick?

It is a real wakizashi, not a wood processing tool. If the sword were designed to whack through lumber, it would be a pretty shitty waki. It will do it. And a Ferrari F80 can be taken off road. But this is a real and proper sword and using it to whack through lumber is not recommended.

Tatami omote mats, soaked in water and on a proper stand is a traditional target.

That, and people.

I everyday carry a Sig 365 9 mm

I was struggling to get a hole in a wall to run some wire the other day and I actually used my concealed carry pistol to finish poking a hole through a problem spot

It will do it

Not recommended though

When I was a kid my brother started making a sky light with a 12 gauge dad wasn’t to happy.

We once had a bird in the shop that was flying around shitting all over everything and I couldn't get it to go out of the door so I finally just shot the damn thing with a .22

Jo was not pleased.

That is not, by any stretch, the last time a firearm was discharged in the shop. But we're usually not shooting at something IN the shop.

We once had a Kia kv40a machining center that we were all entirely fed up with

We shot it with the 7 mag before taking it to the scrap yard. Just out of spite.

The spall managed to damage Marks car, which was pretty cool.

Look into air rifles. You'll have fun and the boss will not get (as) upset.

Sheesh, that’s what airguns are for. Much lower chance of adding unwanted ventilation holes 😅

As for using firearms to make quick holes; I remember someone mentioning that when they worked as a handyman at a trailer park back in the 70s, they used a .22 for small holes (phone lines etc.), a .45 for bigger holes, or a shotgun for pipes. Never could tell if he was just joking (he was the type where he absolutely might’ve done that if he was never called on it).

One of the best bangs for the buck, is still an Air Venturi Avenger paired with a DonnyFL moderator (if noise is an issue). The .22 I have is quite accurate, and the pellet impact is louder than the shot.

The Avenger + DonnyFL is still cheaper than a Benjamin Marauder (and quieter), and the standard Marauder isn’t regulated, where the Avenger is. The regulated Marauder is even more expensive.

Of course, and FX Impact M3 is even nicer if someone really gets the bug.

Airguns are a whole 'nuther rabbit hole to fall into. Guard your wallet well!

Had a bird get into the garage one time. Left the doors open all day but it was too stupid to figure out how to get out. Closed the doors overnight, and it was dead on the floor next morning. Moron.

There is better ammo for that.
