Wow.. That is some nice knife-porn right there..

I'm not into Shiros, or any flipper brands in general, but are those some kind of high end line in Shirogov's line up?

That's a Quantum Gen 2, a serial production model, not one of their "high end lines", and priced only slightly higher than its predecessor--lots of additional milling there for not much more money--with thinner blade stock and at a lighter weight.

On the heels of my recent post #4,131 showing my first three Shiros, here are two more: A pre-owned F3 in Elmax/SRBS, and a new Hation Zero in M390/MRBS.

The action on the F3 is suberb, but something is not right with the HZ: It's a struggle to flip the blade open - it seems like the lock bar is putting too much tension on the blade in the closed position, making it extremely difficult to flip open the blade. I've been getting a callous on my right index finger! Tried putting a little grease in there, without taking the knife apart, but this hasn't helped. The pivot screw tension seems good, as the blade closes itself nicely by gravity from the open position. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've read that some new Zero's are pretty stiff to start with, but do break in after numerous opening cycles. The other thing is that NeOns can be very difficult to flip open with even the lightest, inadvertent finger pressure on the lock bar. As it's a smallish knife, extra care needs be taken to keep any stray digit out of the way. My habit with any flipper is to put the tip of my middle finger on the clip which keeps it from complicating blade deployment.

As a test, try holding the knife by the butt in one hand and operating the flipper with the opposite index finger. This may also make any break-in action needed a bit more tolerable.

Well that did the trick! I just flipped the knife about 20 times while taking care to not touch the lock bar at all, and voila, MRBS perfection!

This solution was so obvious that I missed it completely. Go figure. Thanks Chazzy.

Y’all do me a favor and keep Vladimir_k in your prayers, thoughts, or send up smoke, whatever your thing is. I’m sending prayers. He’s a member here, Long time seller helping us get shiro’s into the US even before they had vendors here. He is in Kherson, and I haven’t heard from him in a week now. Another knife maker in Kyiv (he’s ok so far) says the situation in Kherson is a bit more complicated and rumor is communications are cut off. Just sending this into the void so hopefully will find out him and his family is well.

Never realized Vlad was in Kherson - definitely scary. Hopefully all is well.. definitely a big presence here/in the wider Shiro community.

Vladimir_K is a very good dude and indeed has put a lot of Shiros in many hands both here and over at USN. There was a time that he had a dealer membership here, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore and he hasn't had a sales thread here for two years now. I've made two Shiro purchases from him and at least another two of my knives were originally sourced by others from Vlad.

He was always a most cordial correspondent and trustworthy seller, though we haven't been in touch for a few years now. Have you been in regular communication with him up until now, SVTFreak SVTFreak ? I'll keep a good thought for Vlad and his family and hope they come through these troubles unscathed.

Or demand will exceed supply and prices will rise on the secondary.

That's why I didn't major in economics a thousand years ago: while serving out my Collegiate sentence...

For me the trick was getting used to making sure to always index my fingertips along the bottom edge of the pocket clip and…voila!

Yea, Chazzy, I have remained friends and in touch with him and regular communication up until last week. He kinda slowed down on the shiro game for a coupe of reasons. 1) the prevalence of US dealers was cutting into his sales. He moved to more special stuff, CD’s etc, but then 2) he and a friend opened a bakery shop in Kherson. Left little time for searching knives then. He still located a few for me as a favor though.

I did hear from him this morning. He paints a bleak picture. Him and wife and kiddos are hiding in their basement. He says there is lots of bombing and shelling and dead. “We only hope in God”. I’m glad to hear from him, but worried. Hope it is over quickly. Kinda really makes the true story of war hit home.

Do not know him but thoughts are with him and countrymen.

Can anyone with the new F95 Zero check their tang’s lockface for me? I can’t remember if the ball had a track to run through when it was new, and if not, then it appears mine has severely worn or even has broken the corner off somehow?

I will admit this makes for a seamless lock release, my other F95 has a nice solid squared face so it has more of a double click action like a CRK 21.
