The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

The one thing I'm not thrilled about on some Shiros is the 3 little bars they use as a backspacer. I get that it's protection from the blade but as a design choice it leaves me scratching my head.
Fortunately, that’s only a feature on the NeOn Zero with inlays, there were posts making fun of the three bars a while back

They're on my Quantum Ursus too, which I suspect triggered NYP's post. I'm certainly not thrilled with them and gave considerable thought to their presence before buying mine. It's certainly an odd--and unnecessary--choice from a maker with such clean and excellent design language. My open-back Shiro's all have blade tips that near the handle butt and, try as I might, just to see, I've never been able to force a fingertip into an unfortunate encounter. I might have had a little snag on fabric coming out of pocket, but don't really recall.

Anyway, I decided to make my QUNL purchase anyway and frankly hardly ever notice those three little jail-cell bars unless I look for them. I'd still rather not have them for sure, though, and have considered their removal, but then I'd have six little holes there.

Am I missing some models in that middle size range or does Shiro lean towards bigger size knives? I seem to like a certain size that falls into a middle ground, a blade of around 3.25 to 3.50 and overall length of about 7.5 - 8 ". I bought the Shiro Neon NL and the size is good for me, but it seems they go from a 3.375 to a 3.75~3.875.

There is no middle knife size unfortunately. The Ursus and the 95 series measures 3 3/4. My F3 and Doctor Death are the same also. From there the rest are even bigger.

Whether that’s the reason or to protect from the tip when closed it could have been done more efficiently by switching the lanyard hole and the spacer
I agree. When I first saw them they reminded me of something, but I just can't think what it is.

Or make the handle an 1/8” longer and ditch the 3 prongs. That’s the only thing I hate about the knife, otherwise it’s amazing!
