The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

I was told that until the sanctions are lifted everything has to be hand carried back and forth. This only happens when they come over for a knife show. Until things go back to normal it's going to suck.
Yikes, that is a long walk (and swim)!
That really sucks, also especially for the company, I’m sure business is hurting over there right now….
Being punished for their crazy leader/politics.. 😕 everyone…
I still consider a real Quantum (gen 1 especially) to be one of my all time grails.

I’m surprised this hasn’t been mentioned yet but R1 dropped the next F3 in the Elementals series today, the F3 Terrus. This is the “Earth” version of this special edition series after the first one released a few months ago, the Aquatic (the water one obviously). I’m guessing “Air” and “Fire” versions should be coming at some point. This one has milled Rare Earth TechnoCarbo scales, bronze anodized pivot collar, clip and backspacer, and a S90V blade running on MRBS with a captured pivot system. Like the Aquatic, this one comes with a matching ano’d bead, this time with more of a mountain theme.

Congrats to anyone that scooped one of these up in the less than one hour they were available this morning. Here are some pics from R1, courtesy and full credit to them. I hope they and BF don’t mind me posting these but they need to be seen by this crew!

I tried for one, and they were gone by then, 34 minutes after I got the email (while I was asleep, having gone to bed at 4AM) o_O

I had the opportunity to buy one, but decided nah. I am good with my OG F3NS black cf.

Liked it, but I liked the aquatic better and I'm kicking myself that I didn't get one.

Snagged One!!! Here next week, and it was close to what the seller paid after shipping. So, lost the lottery, but not the prize.

.

I was lucky enough to obtain an F3 Terrus on May 13th, sold out within half an hour after appearance on the maker's site.

The initial intention was to trade it for F95T, F95 R19 or NeOn R20, but now it's a safe queen for a while.

Not a fond of blue theme, hence no regrets for missing the Aquatic.

But I sure as hell look forward to snagging an Ignis, it might be the wildest in the set.

I do love a blue theme, so I'm still looking for an Aquatic, but this will do for now 😁 I am so thankful to jogger112 for letting this go (and shipping so fast), in the pursuit of finding something that fits her hands better. Some people would have held onto it in their safe and never let it see the light of day.

I had found the Terrus sold out when I checked 34 minutes after the email was sent, because I didn't see it right away. Fortunately I was able to procure one in LNIB condition for a good price. Forgive my poor photography skills. It feels great, with a slick action, and drops shut nicely. It is a little big, or at least bigger than what I usually buy when sticking to 3.0 - 3.5" blades, but the size does fit my hands well.IMG_6577 2.JPG

Congratulations! Terrus might be a great outdoor companion anywhere except salt water environment.

I dare to say it has the most comfortable grip of all Shiro production models and S90V is an excellent steel, but for a city dweller like me 😆 F3 is a little bit bulky to carry without sheath/pouch.

If I have an outdoor trip opportunity this summer -- Terrus will be my 1st choice.

Another burst of luck occured about a month ago -- I stumbled upon a brand new 111 Gen 5.1 in stock and immediately bought it.

After unboxing and handling it for a few moments I had to dig out my caliper to verify the preliminary impression -- and yeah, the blade was less than 3mm thick (or should I say "thin")!

I’ve never seen a 111 model that thin before. It might be a recent show left over, not a standard Gen 5.1 issue.

One could expect a blade as thin as 3.2mm according to the official Specs, but ~2.9mm!.. And the weight is 10g less than declared in the catalog -- 128g.

The basic F95 NL model has been recently updated.

The new blade looks more similar to other recent models and jimping was also added.

Blue and yellow micarta versions were sold out within an hour.

A couple of images from the official announcement:
