The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

Finally scored an R20 in pristine condition:

Man these bears at Recon 1 are calling me. I have knives of $700ish price but never a shiro. Tell me how to resist.
One can delude himself (at least for a while) by "waiting for an opportunity" to buy a higher-end knife (like 3M) in a slightly used condition... ;)

On the other hand, the newest versions are easier to maintain, thanks to long-awaited CPS feature.

Have you seen it, guys? The Stellar "1st Run" has been announced ~3 hours ago.

Now that's a proper knife to carry!

Handle118 × 12 mm
Full length210 mm
Weight123 g
PivotMRBS + CPS
Lock"Capped" liner-lock

I hope it actually looks more like "jeans", unlike blue theme

A few samples might be available at the Blade Show this week-end, I guess.

I kept getting 502 errors on their webpage and finally had this knife in my cart selected my shipping and went to pay and then got the dreaded message before PayPal popped up….

Got my first Shiro (Hati gen 3) last week and I’m hooked. Already have a F3 on its way and I wouldn’t bought the stellar had it not been sold out 🤪.

I was really hoping not to like it as much as a do … gonna be a problem I can already tell

I feel your pain, man...

Stellars are supposed to become available this year with M390 and maybe Vanax as well.

S90V or Xanax are my top choices. It just sucks it was in my cart, address and shipping handled, and before PayPal link finished opening so that I could pay they sold out under me.

I'm tempted to just buy another Koenig, or to stop buying knives and take a breather. Hmmm

I breezed over the Stellar email for some reason and wish I hadn’t. Oh well. I wonder how many were available.

Shit happens all the time.

Russian buyers complain about the same issues with maker's own web-site -- which is supposed to be far less overcrowded at 1 p.m (UTC+03:00).

IMHO it never hurts to take a breather and accumulate some funds

For years I have watched and lusted a bit over Shirogorovs. The problem was they were all too big. I try to stay at 3 inches but have gone a bit higher at times. I noticed the Neon Zero first and was surprised at the blade length, do it came home. Next was a Neon NL followed by the Hation Halloween. This is getting expensive.

Nice! Even though I own/have owned the larger models I tend to gravitate more toward the NeOns and HatiOns as well.

Same - I have 2 NeOn NL, 1 HatiOn Zero - 3 small ones; and 2 full size ones - 1 F3 Terrus, and 1 F95 NL blue crazy micarta.

I just joined the Shiro party but have the same experience with CRKs. The small Sebenza has been my most carried knives of all time.

I just got a Hati and have an F3 on the way. I know I’ll end up with a neon too 🤦‍♂️. They are incredible and so different than what I would normally carry. I’m hooked.

I still think you have to start with a full size on Shiro and CRK to really appreciate how the knives were initially designed and intended. Once that sinks in, the smaller versions have a ton of appeal for practicality.

To each his own, I suppose, as my size preference is just opposite of those most recently expressed, favoring the larger versions of not only Shiros, but CRKs as well. My first of the latter was a small cocobolo 21 and I found it just too small to afford a reasonably secure grip in my old, thick, arthritic carpenter's mitts. That one's long gone and his given way to all larges--3/21's, a Starbenza 25, StarTac Zaan, 2 Inkosis, and 2/31's. I do have one snakewood Mnandi for dress carry. For Shiro's, I've kept my NeOn UL as it affords a decent 3 1/2 finger grip, but favor my 2/F95's, Hati, F3, 111, Tabargan, and QU NL. My RDD masquerades as a smaller knife, but features a full 95 mm blade. FWIW, my Cheburkovs follow the same pattern with one small Strizh and 5 larges, all but one over 4". I do have a fair number of mid-sized knives and keep enough of those smaller for more discreet carry, but across all brands/makers really prefer those with longer blades and plenty of handle real estate to hang onto.

A couple of questions if you all don’t mind.

what does 3 bears mean? My Hati gen 3, does it have the captive pivot? Is that just for disassembly? What’s the best way to disassemble if i don’t have the Shiro tool?

I’m trying to find vids or reviews of Shiros under hard use. Not abusive, just hard work.
I’ve only carried and cut soft things with my Hati like food, tape and cardboard. My real daily use would be layers if plastic wrap, cardboard, plastic straps, thin metal banding, zip ties, as well as soft stuff. Wondering what to expect under harder use

Sagandavis Sagandavis , Three Bears is an older Shiro designation indicating a knife with a more premium level of materials and features. No longer in use, that system incorporated One, Two, and Three Bear levels indicated by the number of logos printed on the COA. Here's the Three Bears card from my F95R (Renewed) model that featured improvements such as MRBS (Multi Row Bearing System) over SRBS, internal slab milling for weight reduction, bearing underlay washers to protect the handle slabs from wear, scale materials more costly than G10, say, more detail in overall milling, and "higher" grades of blade materials. Some earlier knife models, such as the NeOn (Two Bears), all fell into a certain Bears category based on their pivot features.

The Gen system is a newer categorization of Shiro knife releases/iterations within the various models and was applied retroactively to all the earlier versions. Someone else may have a better understanding of how many Gens of Hati's there are. My guess is that if there are higher numbered Gens of Hati's than 3, then yours is not. The captive pivot is relatively new and really just exists for ease of disassembly. A well fitting common screwdriver with a bit of tape over the bit is excellent for working PacMan screws. Jekyll to Hyde makes an aluminum tool that's much more economical than Shiro pens and tools. A well fitting coin works pretty well and has been the fall back for years.

My older F95 Turtle, Hati on washers, and 100NS Tabargan are all work users. They hold up very well under hard use and bear the marks and scratches to show it. I am a bit careful with their pointy tips, but that's true for most all my knives as I use them for cutting stuff, not as pry bars or screwdrivers as I have other tools to do those chores.
