The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

Some incredible pics recently! Those stonewashed and anodized scales look incredible B Bacchus and that blue CF is insane DocJekl DocJekl , the color really pops and the blue looks very classy. I finally managed a decent pic of my new Molten Overkill, number 78 reporting in. This knife is insane, the milling, the action, the size, the MagnaCut - it’s almost too much goodness in a single package. The detent is very strong - I’ve even flubbed opening it once or twice since there’s no jimping on the flipper tab - and between that and the SRRBS, it fires like a pistol! The scales are anodized and have basically the identical dark gray color as the Bio Dark. I’m terrified to use it, it’s so nice, but I’m really glad I had the chance to score one from R1. Have a great rest of your weekend folks!

Interesting question, B Bacchus , and right up Mr Old School's alley, being a serial production guy. As a preface, I'll mention that the only Shiro (or any knife) I've paid 4 figures for is also my only collab or any out of the SP range--the RDD CF, which is too sweet to keep in a box and gets carried and used. That one came from a generous friend here that let me have it for the amount mentioned in your query above. Even those Shiro's bought brand new were under 4 figures, some coming from private Russian re-sellers that paid much lower retail over there and were able to offer significant discounts over here.

Anyway, two serial production models that would tickle my fancy are the F3NS in plain black CF and an Alutex Hati somewhere in the Orange, Cherry, Purple, Violet range. The latter's newer gen 3 models with lockside inlays are OK by me, but I really kinda prefer the plain Ti reverse side. After all, the knives are Half-Ti's, not 5/8-Ti's.

Being mindful of staying to the Old School--not Grouchy Old Guy--side of things, here's couple spare tight shots of my work user Gen1 Hati on washers that I carried and sharpened on Sunday, later carelessly dropping it while open and giving myself a bit of a leg wound.

ChazzyP ChazzyP , it's a kind of privilege nowadays -- to remain Mr. Old School 🙃

Shiro Gen1 flippers are hard to find in a good condition (let alone mint / never sharpened) for remotely reasonable price. And the only way to avoid huge risk of buying a replica is to deal with a few well-known and reputable collectors who are sadly not so much interested in selling such items 🙃 So, most of us have to stick to the last generation.

Regarding Hati Gen3 w/o inlays -- I totally agree. It would be nice to see a Hati Zero.

I hope your wound will mend ASAP without any after-effects.

The video is the best representation of the color, or the second or third picture.

The blue got darker in the shadowy part of the first pic, where I was trying to hide the sparkly reflections of the light by keeping direct light off. I then had to brighten the picture post processing because it was too dark.
My blue arrived today and I think the red is a little brighter color than the blue, but the blue is still a keeper for now. You can't beat the blade shape and thin light weight. This is my perfect knife, I just wish it cost 400.00 and not 1100.00. Recon 1 does a great shop packing and shipping as always.

I'm wondering how many of them there were, because the blue Technocarbo is sold out

2nd batch alert! 🙃 I was lucky enough to snatch a Blue TechnoCarbo Hati today from the maker’s site, hence we may expect R1 to replenish their stock very soon.

Hopefully mine will be as colorful as DocJekl DocJekl 's Hati is.

P.S. Well, there might be some kind of logistics hiccup, the 3rd batch appeared 21.08 on the maker's website. I guess it was rather small one, sold out within an hour.

My Blue TechnoCarbo Hati arrived today -- this variation looks more colorful and complex, than the Red one, I would call it a 'Metallic Blue' or 'Blue Tinfoil'.

I finally made a 4k-video of resharpened and re-assembled Red TechnoCarbo Hati customized by Ashot Akopyan (from the Knife Workshop): stonewash + bronze ano.

P.S. for some reason it's marked by YouTube with a label "Video processing is taking longer than expected". I'm going to wait for an hour or two before trying to re-upload the file.

P.P.S. I had to re-upload the same file once again and to replace the link to the media. Sorry for inconvenience.

Your pics in your updated post on the blue Hati Gen 3 look great, and in your pics it does look as colorful as my blue one.

Sometimes you just can't trust digital pics on the phone and computer when it can change so much with the light (and with the processing done on the phones these days, which may or may not fix the issues.)

I totally agree with you on all points, sir. Taking proper pictures of CarboFiber is a challenge itself, but modern mobile camera technologies make it a real PITA -- my 13 mini lacks telephoto lens and built-in image processing tends to over-blur the main object in a miserable attempt to imitate bokeh (an extremely annoying feature). In many cases a short hires video seems preferable to still pictures.

Personally I'd prefer to use my good old 60D whenever possible, unfortunately I'm too lazy to take DSLR & tripod on a walk every time. 🙃

But for indoor object shooting a trustworthy set of 60D + 60mm lens + external flash + tripod usually produces consistent results without notable distortions, sometimes white balance correction is required though.

Looks like there were a few of us buying the Blue Technocarbo recently. Shiro should have put an "n" at the end of Technocarbo. Seems like it sounds more correct to pronounce as "Technocarbon".

While I was shopping for that, I also picked up a Blue CF 111. Not easy capturing the blue CF weave on the 111.

Nice trio pic. Geez that Arius looks like a mini compared to the Shiro’s. Unless it is a mini 😊.

Hey Andre21. Yes, it is a mini. I bought all three last week and posted the pic on the iron table in the latest acquisitions thread. I thought the faded iron table brought out the blue in the 111 better than the deck, so I put it here too.

ETA: If having a pic that contains a non-Shiro knife is against the rules I can remove it.
