The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

A dirty Shiro!!! Praise the lord a used Shiro in the wild!

Here's another one for you šŸ™ƒ

Please post yours oh ā€œelite oneā€, we’re all waiting with bated breath hahahahaha! You dork.
I wasn't really sure of the earlier poster's intent and was reluctant to respond, but I would say that many of the Denizens here carry and use their Shiros extensively, though there are those that largely collect as well. I for one employ three of my eight as work users with the other 5 getting regular carry in more of an EDC role. Even my RDD collab--the priciest in my modest accumulation--gets regular carry and use as it's way to good a knife to sit in a drawer only to be admired and fondled.

I'd also mention that I rarely use any folder for food prep, and tend to clean my knives up a bit and arrange them favorably before taking any pics to post. There are many wear marks and scratches on both my F95T and Hats that would attest to their use "in the wild".

There was a previous drive-by of his here claiming that no one uses their Shiros and the pics of the owners hands show it? Kind of weird he’s staring at our hands, this dude must be jealous of something around here lol.

I find when I’m doing something that requires me to use the knife in my pocket, I don’t really have the time or need to stop what I’m doing to pull my phone out and document it for everyone. Sometimes, yeah I will so I can add a nice picture here, otherwise I cut what I need cut and keep going about my day, I have a home remodel going and a regular job too, knife glamour shots have taken a backseat for a bit!

Jsega51 Jsega51 , I didn't remember his user name nor any posting here until your reminder, so I did a search just to see. Interesting how he went from 2021 postings asking questions here about Shiros and wanting to pick one up, then jumped to 2024 basically trolling us. I remember the "hands" comment now after re-reading that post and recall just shaking my head at it. I spent over 50 years making my living with mine and working outdoors, using carpentry, forestry, and sheetmetal tools along with whatever knife I had along with me. And here I thought this forum was for showing off knife pics, not those of beat-up old working man's mitts.

I'm like you too, when working I'm pretty much all about that and don't think to stop and take knife pics. Knife pics are usually a separate thing and I do take the time when I can to make them look nice. I won't duck if there's another drive-by here from someone who's just shooting blanks.

Mine are just safe queens.

BTW, may I ask the fellow Denizens about their opinion of the term "safe queen"? Does it usually have a negative connotation, excluding the obvious cases, i.e. someone wants to underline the pristine condition of an object put up for sale?

On our side of the pond we have a neutral term "полочник" [ˈpɒlɒtʃnÉŖk] — it usually means "a knife being displayed on a rack, kept in close proximity, fondled occasionally, but neither EDC'ed nor hidden away in a box".

Yes. "safe queens" are only taken out of people's safe or box for photos. Staged on or around things and then put back away without ever doing anything else.

It doesn't always have a negative connotation, but it has definitely become more common for it to be used in a negative light. There's quite a bit of irony because everyone loves to see "safe queen" in a for sale listing when they're purchasing a used knife, but when someone posts a high end knife that is clean and without major wear, people will hurry to accuse them of buying expensive knives to only be safe queens as though that is not their right...like there's some machismo or masculinity determination being made by whether or not a knife is used or abused.

I have a collection of high end knives, and I carry and use them all. A majority of my day-to-day uses are limited to opening mail, cutting tape, cardboard boxes, packaging, etc., but I do it daily. Because of that I can carry and use a knife for a long time before signs of wear become apparent. For many that is not good enough for some inexplicable reason. They feel superior because they dig around in dirt, cut carpet, strip wire, or whatever the case may be. If I needed to do those things my knives would be used for it, but they aren't tasks I encounter on a regular basis.

This of course is a generalization and not everyone feels this way or comes after others for how they use or don't use their knife, but it seems more common than ever. I think it's largely a result of the huge marketplace for secondary knives that exists on the internet. The new normal is to buy something with the expectation of selling it in the future, with rare exceptions being made for outstanding knives that will be a permanent part of a collection. Even then, I've sold countless knives that, at one time, I told myself I'd never sell. I've admitted to myself that almost nothing is necessarily permanent in my collection, some may just stick around longer than others. This leads to both knives being looked after and maintained more carefully, and knives that are purchased and do nothing more than get flicked on the couch before they're up for sale again. We've all seen listings that claim the knife has never been carried or used to cut, and the person selling it is the umpteenth owner.

Man, I forgot this place existed haha.

ChazzyP ChazzyP sorry for missing out on all the tags, I'll make a habit of checking in here more often to answer questions and such lol
Nice to see you back around, my friend. I've missed some of the back and forth we had over the years and look forward to seeing more of your contributions here in the Den. And, yeah, that's definitely a safe queen you've pictured there. šŸ˜

When you see the person wearing gloves to handle it. šŸ˜†

I’m not sure that’s true. I believe the Molten Overkill was their first MagnaCut offering.
It is true, the knife was finished in may 2023 and I talked to Sergey about his first experience with the cutting performance of MagnaCut (on his personal knife) at Blade Show 2023 in june where this knife was available.

The Molten Overkill lottos ran early august in 2023.

Shiros are truly a mechanical work of art.
