The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

Are they using stainless balls? And see those ceramic washers? The washers look white but could just be the photo exposure.

Great pics, I haven't seen many Shiro guts pics like that. Very beautiful.
Those loose bearings are nightmare fuel! But dang if it ain't neat to see under the hood!
Those pics aren’t mine. They were posted by B Bacchus and quoted by norcalAF norcalAF I believe.

That's quite the flex, awesome stable. Hope to own a Shiro one day.

What Finish Line lube is that? Currently I've just been using KPL on my bearings and pivot, very small amount, and I actually use Slick Honey grease on my detents. Again a very small amount. Slick Honey/Slickoleum is a light grease for use in suspension, popular in the mountain bike world.
Thanks for your kind words regarding my small stable of older Shiro's.

That's FL's Extreme Fluoro. I don't use grease in any pivots, or on ball bearing or flat washers in any knives. I put a small dab on the detent ball if my cleaning/tune-up doesn't involve disassembly or in the detent ball hole if it does. The FLEF, which contains PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene or, Teflon), helps smooth the arc of travel through opening and closure and also aids the flipping action a little. The only lube I use on BB's or PB washers is W10 NanoOil. Nylon or Teflon washers get liquid TriFlow which is also PTFE.

Shiro uses only stainless balls in their pivots. Sergey tried out ceramic balls but rejected using them as their tolerances were not tight enough to meet his criteria for having consistent contact with the underlay washers/blade tang. I forget whether Shiro makes their own BB's or sources them from a maker that provides consistent sizing.

I wouldn't expect that those underlay washers are ceramic but instead are stainless, meant simply to protect the scales or Ti slabs. B Bacchus , those teardown pics from the Workshop are of a Stellar CF, correct? That knife is very tempting--something different from all my old school Bears....

I know these are rookie numbers among this lot, but I’m very happy with my little Shiro family which grew by one today. IMG_8199.jpeg
I missed out on an Astrum in the sales section last week and it bugged me so much, I said screw it and went ahead and ordered myself a new one. Very glad I did. IMG_8187.jpegIMG_8185.jpeg

All good! One thing you did point out that I NEED is some tweezers with the rubber end caps or something other than just thin metal tips because when you pinch one of those little balls wrong they definitely shoot off at the speed of light lol
I just had to purchase a repair kit for my F95 after flinging one into the abyss off my desk. Lesson learned! 🫡

Ok Bears Den. Long time lurker, and returning Shiro fanatic. I had to downsize for a bit, but I’m back in the game and looking to add to the bear family. So, I thought I would memorialize my current Shiros, and will share as I add. IMG_1570.jpeg

I have been fangirling for the Astrum since it came out. I’m a little hesitant because of the blade length, but I hear it carries much smaller than the length indicates.

Nice pickup!

It absolutely does carry like a much smaller knife. That’s one of the greatest aspects of the design. All that blade in seemingly tiny package. You’ll love it.
