The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

what is the difference between..
a F95R

and

a F95 with milled handles, m390 blade with “new blade grind”, mrbs, new clip

Besides the time that they were manufactured

I haven't run across a Shiro designated as F95 with the features you mention. I have seen F95Rs with your quoted specs and the black COA cards with one Bear logo at the bottom. I have an F95R with similar specs, excepting mine has a Vanax37 blade, that came with a white COA card with 3 Bear logos at the bottom. Most F95Rs come with the standard 4mm blade, while my 3 Bears has the rarer 3.5mm blade. I have seen the same F95R listed at a Russian online dealer as a 3 Bears but with the 4mm blade. They don't show the card.

You may be right that the difference is just time of manufacture. With the exception of the blade steel, I believe that the specs you mention comprise the standard platform for the F95 models and that all the current models are designated as F95Rs. I'm not sure that all online listings of similar knives for sale that one encounters are entirely accurate either.

Just a quick chiming in.

I have been luckily to experience many of the custom folders from top makers, and while there are certainly some I’d choose over a Shiro because of design, materials, workmanship etc. , I still haven’t found a folder that can beat the mechanics of a good CD or collab Shiro. I can’t speak to production Shiros as I haven’t had one. But the CD and collab Shiros are mechanically some of the best Knives I have ever encountered. And I’ve been at this quite a while.

Thanks. I think you mean inches not mm but man, I would love to have a F95R with a smaller blade. The F95 I’m speaking of is the monkey edge frag 95. Technically it’s listed as a F95 model but as we both seem to agree, the specs are the exact same as the F95R. If it were me, I’d call it a F95R being since the regular F95 generally came with srbs and no internal milling.

If the F95 is too big buy a Neon.

I did mean mm as the stock 95 blade is 4 mm thick while my particular 3 Bears version is 3.5 mm. As if a Shiro isn't slicey enough with its tall flat grind. I do prefer the looks of the new blade style with its 5/6ths grind and the thinner blade stock certainly helps the cutting geometry there.

You're correct in that ME's website simply refers to the knife as an F95, but they don't show the box or a COA, so I wonder if the knife is called an F95MEFP. It clearly has the same features as the current 95s and could be an F95RMEFP if the skinny little Shiro boxes have enough room for all that.

CPP CPP is quite correct and the NeOn has most all the great features of an F95Whatever with a smaller blade. I believe CPP has a NeOn Lite, NeOn UltraLite, and a HatiOn. I've got a NeOn UltraLite, love the open-back construction and having a delicious smaller, elegant knife to carry when appropriate, but also seriously covet CPP's HO. I would say, though, that as much as I love me Shiros, one with a 3.5 or 4 mm length blade would be way too short to be of any use.

Your input here is highly illuminating, though perhaps not surprising to Bears' Den denizens that are all in on Shiros from the get-go. I've seen many of your gorgeous and extremely well-made customs within the pages of BF and your opinion relative to this thread's subject knives therefore carries considerable weight.

The "highest" I've gotten so far in the Shiro hierarchy is my recently acquired 3 Bears F95R and I have no experience with customs. I'll willingly assume, however, that the mechanics of the serial knives aren't poorer than the CDs or Collabs, but that the higher-end Bears include features such as roller bearings--in addition to more artful, hands-on detailing-- that allow the knives to perform even more admirably than their lesser cousins.

Thanks! I have some nice Sebenza’s and wanted to pick up a Shirogorov. I just love the look of the CD Hati

Sharpened it on the Edge Pro Professional down to 19.5*. Went from 120 EP stone all the way up to 6k Shapton Glass. Still has plenty of bite even though it’s polished. I’m generally a toothy edge kinda guy but this baby just begged for a little shine!

Sweet blades, Megalobyte Megalobyte . I'll join the ranks of the envious.

Nice edge, ManOfSteel89 ManOfSteel89 . Now that you understand, welcome to the Ursine Brotherhood. :D

marcus52AR marcus52AR wished us all a Happy Canada Day on another thread yesterday. I posted there that it was Russia Day for me.

I own a 95T Blue. How different is the Hati on the Hand and pocket from the 95t? Looking at the Orange Alutex scale one.

Thanks for the input
