The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

And I got an email from Recon 1 saying Shiro is discontinuing their use of S90V...

There have been a few changes of late. No longer offering S90V in their serials plus Knife Center is now an official dealer for Shirogorov knives. The main US dealer is still their premier dealer and distributor and from what I understand through the grapevine, they will still address warranty claims even if KC is the seller. Something like that!

Do we know that Knife Center is an official Shirogorov dealer? I got their email and link to the vid with all the new Shiros they have in stock (priced the same as R1), but there was no mention of them being an authorized dealer. They've always had a few Shiros here and there for sale and I just figured they'd picked them up overseas at Workshop retail and were marking them up to re-sell. No different than what R**Blade or FRWT do selling online from Russia. I looked at USN and did a bit of an internet search and found no mention of officialdom for KC re Shiro sales.

I've been curious about Knife Center's relationship with Shirogorov and noticed a few things that–in absence of evidence that they are an official dealer–led me to the conclusion that they were purchasing their Shiros from the authorized dealer and reselling them. First they were significantly marked up from the official dealers prices but now they are the same. I am in no way implying that Knife Center is doing anything unethical.

I read on IG that Shirogorov will no longer offer their knives using Vanax. I wonder what factors led to that decision?

This would be unfortunate! Vanax 37 might be my favorite steel now. I honestly wish another more mainstream maker would pick it up and offer it in some production knives. CRK comes to mind, as their use of S35VN is the main gripe I have with them...

Makes me glad for the F95T I do have in this particular alloy. (Lordy, what a blade!) I would also like to know why it may be going away, and what they deem to be a better offering.

According to Shiro's IG account Knife Center is an AD: https://www.instagram.com/p/BxM0VDHBUsd/

I've been inching closer and closer to grabbing a Hati and have skimmed through a lot of the photos in this thread but have had trouble finding real world photos of the silver alutex. Anyone able to help me out? I'm thinking it will be too shiny, blingy, etc for me.

Apologies for the late response but the post from TightLines containing the link from Shirogorov knives IG account clearly conforms that KC which is incidentally also a paid member and sponsor on here (so that we won't have to dance around naming names) an official dealer for Shirogorov knives.

Further, I have heard on good authority that the other dealer (R1) is still the main dealer and also the distributor of Shirogorov knives in the U.S. From my understanding (3rd hand info) the CoAs will be filled out by R1 just like before even if knife is bought from KC and that in case of a warranty claim, those claims will be going through R1.

Personally it is a welcome step for us who are located in CA because since KC does not seem to charge Internet sales tax, we may save about 9% added on sales tax. However, I am not 100% certain on this paragraph!

need some info... on Shiro knives...
I have 3 older boxes... with 3 older knives... not sure what the label means...

Hati, RWL34 FS, G10 (russian for orange) what does the FS mean?
Hati, S30V CF what does it have? washers? bearings?
F3, Elmax FS CF 3D (big russian word) what does the FS mean?

Pharmagator Pharmagator , I asked Tom about the box markings last summer and here's what he wrote,

"1. No markings. Means a plain blade (no jimping, full flat grind).
2. S. Full flat ground blade with jimping.
3. FS. 5/6ths grind with jimping (or flats with jimping)
4. TS. Jimping with extracts (cutouts) near the base of the blade spine."

Thanks for chasing down the official story on Knife Center's relationship with Shirogorov, T TightLines and Casinostocks Casinostocks . As you say, CS, it is good to have a BF registered authorized Shiro dealer. Surprising that R1 won't pony up the 300 bucks annually for a presence here.

As I've been admiring new Denizen DRLyman DRLyman 's recently acquired Turtle, I was prompted to pocket my trusty old F95T today. I headed out to snap some fresh pics just as the rain started.

Hati, S30V CF is almost certainly on washers like my older Orange G10 M390 Hati.

Edit: Make that certainly on washers.

As always, that knife is looking really good in those photos. It was your pictures of that knife that got me interested in Shiro knives to start with.

It’ll be interesting to see if KC will carry inventory with ongoing availability like they do with almost everything else or whether they’ll have intermittent availability like R1 has a lot of the time. R1 availability has been better for a number of models in the last few months, but it still seems to come and go with some models. I also wonder if KC will do lotteries the way R1 does every now and then, like they did with the Pero. This should be interesting to watch as it unfolds.

As I had stated upthread, per my 3rd hand "info" R1 is the main distributor so you may extrapolate your own conclusions from what I have been mumbling :)
