The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

So we now have an old snake and a young snake here, Gator. Looking at your blade with its jimped "extracts" and Vanax 37 steel, I'm assuming that your "018" dated Russian birthcard must have three Bear logos along the bottom. I usually prefer to see the "eyes" on Python Micarta arranged longitudinally along the handle, but the location of the cut sheet on your perpendicularly oriented scales makes for a really interesting pattern after contouring that I like a lot.

Now that there's two here we can definitely call "Snake Eyes!" :D

yes, I purchased this with the 3 bears certificate (from Russia) I like the 'eyes'pattern a little better... but this is the only one I have seen in a while...

You've certainly been on a tbear recently :D I'm not telling though :P

When I first saw your text before scrolling down to the pics I thought you'd bought the one from page 4 of the Cove over at USN. It has the eyes pattern and an interesting steel in RWL34. Nothing wrong with yours for sure, though. Very nice. :D

OTOH, as Casinostocks Casinostocks has referred to your recent Bear Tear, perhaps you'll take the enabler-driven standard BF mantra to heart and "get both". :p

Because of the cost of these knives, I compared every model I could and this one kept coming to the front of the pack for me. I received this last week and absolutely love this knife. For me, this is perfection. I don't see myself carrying any other knife for quite some time. I am so happy I decided to purchase this knife.

A real beauty! I have a 95T almost that knice!

(and I am guessing M390 for the blade steel)

Thanks. You are correct. It is M390. It’s also nice to know the HRC they use for this steel. I was surprised it was that high. Other manufacturers don’t let you know for some reason.

Still enjoying this knife. It’s just a week old, but it has bumped all others from my pocket.

Shiros will do that, especially the Turtle. Next stop an F3, DR--really feels great in hand and an excellent liner lock to boot. Then onto.... You see where this goes. ;)

I just went old school and traded one of my Sebenzas for a Tabargan 100NS with uncontoured G10, open back, and 440C. I've got a couple old Benchmades in that steel that take scary sharp edges and Shiro seems to do such a great job with all their steels that I'll happily give it a go. I miss my M390, marble CF 100NS and curiously got this one from the guy I sold it to. He sold mine, also missed it, bought the one he's sending me then bought a second one in Vanax 35 that he's having modded to match the liners and CF of my original knife.

...and around and around it goes...

LOL This one is just a week old. I am refraining from looking at other Shiros for a while now or my wife will kill me :)
I bet that Tabargan is going to be a beautiful knife. I've looked at the HRC #'s you posted and am impressed with what they heat treat their different steels at. That's a funny story. The good thing is that you'll be getting a great knife. And from what I am seeing and learning, if it has the Shiro name on it, it's going to be good.

I read on IG that Shirogorov will no longer offer their knives using Vanax. I wonder what factors led to that decision?
