The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

As I had stated upthread, per my 3rd hand "info" R1 is the main distributor so you may extrapolate your own conclusions from what I have been mumbling :)
I assume that Knife Center will get its Shiros via Recon1 as the latter gets their product before the former

Those look very nice. Kinda steep, but I'm sure they are fantastic.

Edit to add..

I checked to make sure they were sold out. Mixed feelings, kinda sad I missed out but also relieved I don't have to tell the wife I bought another one.

Shiro has announced the Neon Zero top tier (formerly known as 3 Bears) Neon. The Zero has a 7-8 millimeters longer blade than the Lite and Ultra-Lite models, different jimping and different backspacer among several other differences detailed in the post.

That's really exciting! With all the design changes, I'm still dumbfounded why they haven't extended the choil a little bit further to clear the plunge line. Everything else seems super well thought out! That backspacer/lanyard hole change is amazing.

According to the post (translated by Google):
Also, the slope of the descents in the ricasso area is changed, which gives the blade a rapid shape and makes it more comfortable to sharpen.

That blade shape looks awesome. Nice clean details. I hope they produce a bunch of these. Or was it a limited run?

Haha. So not that easy then. Well now I have 11 instead of 10 knives on my WTB list. Being a knife nut is rough.:D

Me too! (actually I am selling most of my knives... except I keep adding Shirogorov knives.... my wife says "that's not how this works... That's not how any of this works..." )

OK, for those who do not frequent the other knife site where Shirogorov knives has an official presence, here is what what updated a little bit earlier on today:

Shirogorov knives currently have two authorised dealers in the US:
R1
*
KnifeCenter.com

All other resellers do not acquire their products directly from us, and in all likelihood procure them on the secondary market. As such, it is entirely the buyer's risk and own judgement regarding authenticity and/or technical condition of the knife bought from a non-authorized dealer.

Please observe that while both R1 and KnifeCenter are official dealers, R1 is also our distributor in the US - this means that you should contact them in case of any warranty issues (even if you bought your Shirogorov folder from KnifeCenter).

* Since R1 is not a supporting member of this Site, I have abbreviated their full website name from the official announcement. Hoping that this method is fine in here?

Lots new here in the Den--new authorized dealer, new sweet NeOn, news on discontinued blade steels. Me, I went Old School with the Tabargan 100NS I picked up at my local PO today. The Tabargan was a fairly early Shiro model that served as a platform for numerous blade steels, scale materials/shape, and handle spine construction. My knife seems to be one of the older models with un-contoured G10 scales with extracts around the screws and barrel-lock studs. Not as old as some I've seen that pre-dated PacMan screws.

With all the new and super-steels abounding, the blade on this one is good ole 440C with a coarser finish than current Shiro bead-blast and a wicked sharp edge. The show-piece Tabargan I sold last year had a backspacer with integral lanyard hole to match its custom marble CF scales. This one has open-back construction with two big stand-offs, the rear one appearing a bit larger than the other.

This is a solid, no-nonsense knife with all the excellent design and build quality one expects from Shirogorov that I'm very pleased to acquire.

My guess is this one might be a bit shy of ten years old. The earliest Shiro I've seen pictured was circa 2006 and looked very much like an AXIS lock AFCK. I'm going to ask around over at the USN Shiro pages for some help dating this one and of course would appreciate any input from Denizens here. :D

I love hearing the history behind a particular folder or knife company. If you find out any more post it here! Thanks!
