The Beer Scout Knife

Takes a man of Paul's strength to remove the bail, I guess!:D You're the first one I've seen to remove and take a photo, thanks, now we all can see what it looks like.

Willydigger, what's so dissapointing about the Soda Scouts (that have not even been shipped out yet)??!

Great pictures everyone:thumbup:

Carried with bail for a few days, will try bailless for a few and see which one floats my boat...

Yes, first to show bail free! I'm gonna make a bet that you like it better without.
Ditto what Phil said!

Just the shield or what?
When the Chestnut and the Cocobolo popped up I thought for sure I would collect these knowing a Micarta and my super favorite Rust Red where listed as scale material. Then I saw the Micarta and my Rust Red and it was the old Scout shield. Extreme disappointment that that Rust Red wasn't that same.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the old Scout design, but it had a pen and no bail. This new SFO is like a bastard between a Beer Scout and the old Scout. Pass.

Add it to the list of life's other great disappointments. Firefly cancelled, D&D 4th Ed, and what ever happened to Deadwood? :D

I think you should put that disappointment on hold until you see how the red turns out. Shaping up to be a stunner in my opinion.

I'm not sure that I understand but I've also never watched Firefly or played D&D. I did see a few episodes of Deadwood. ;)

IMHO Mike's "soda scout" SFO was what GEC should have done with the whole production run. I don't care for the script, long shield, or "BS" etch on the "beer scouts". But I do love the chestnut saw cut bone so I may keep it anyway. If GEC had used plain font and a smaller shield with just "scout", then I would have bought every single variation of the pattern.

Both seem to be good sellers already. People prefer different things.

So is the Soda Scout shield displayed somewhere Fred? I honestly don't know so if it is I'd like to cast a glance at it as I'm under the impression it simply says "Soda Scout Knife"?

Just says "scout". I think that was pretty clear the whole time though. It is on GECs home page currently.

I've been to busy and far behind for anything to be clear...just ask my wife Nanc, I'm sure she could go on and on:D

Got ya. I think the soda scout was for the non beer drinkers so it doesn't say beer on it.

There is a reason it doesn't look like your favorite Rust Red; it has been Blood Red from day one. Also, documented with a "Scout" shield from inception. I hate you don't like them, but I didn't see any reason to re-invent the Scout shield. Just an alternative shield for those that prefer not to have the new one.

Put me in the crowd that didn't know either. I just wish the Rust Red would have been a Beer Scout. It's fun and fresh. The SFO is like a Frankenstein of extra parts. Huge fan of the Rust Red, not a fan of the hybrid. What do I know though. Just a dude who expected one thing and saw something else. I'm sure it will do well. It will likely mean there will never be a Rust Red Beer Scout though.

Are you the SFO Mike? I don't mean any disrespect, just an opinion. :D

The fault falls squarely on me...you know what they say about assume? I dig the orig radio scouts and see no problem with these...just thought it said Soda:cool::o:thumbup:

... which is what GEC's first knife with this blade/frame combination was, a parts knife for last year's Rendezvous...

... which met with wild acclaim.

Or at least some whistlin' in the bushes (anyone else seen Maverick?).

:)

Yes, it is mine. Oh we all get opinions. Just didn't want you to think there was a bait/switch or something. No Frankenstein, just a different shield on my two favorite slabs that they weren't going to make for themselves. I am a youth sponsor at church and can't show up with a "Beer Scout Knife" ;)
