The Beer Scout Knife

Sorry if this has been brought up already...

With regards to the bails, on my chestnut, the bail has some friction to the movement, which I like, since it doesn't flop around freely. On the tortoise shell I just got, the bail moves as free as can be.

How are yours??? How are they supposed to be?

I only have 1 presently (3 others on the way) but my bail moves freely. Since it's just bent wire, I think it's probably just a matter of how it's fitted. You might be able to loosen or tighten it by just adjusting the bends in the wire.

These knives are worse than potato chips!

In the best way.:D

Whose latest potato chip was shipped to the wrong town today, 1 hr away after being all of 20 minutes away (and in the local USPS system) as of yesterday afternoon.

Sorry for your troubles with the postal system, P. But the idea of a potato chip being out of town made me smile. :)

I can't wait til the weekend, my micarta soda scout will be here. I hope I get one of the redish covered ones.

Ok Jake, that's what I had figured but thought I'd ask anyway. Might have to bend the tortoise's bail a little so it's not so floppy.

Sounds like a biological experiment!!!

I only have one in chestnut (one in linen on the way) and I removed it. It swung freely and within 5 minutes of my dad looking at my knife, he closed the blade on the bail. I also heard people talking about using pliers to remove the bail. I did it with my hands at a stoplight.

Same here!

My ebony and ivory bone versions both flop freely. Very ready to get my micarta in and take the bail off that one.

Whoa, I have been patiently waiting for the past week and a half, and finally out of the postal void, my cocobolo(s) arrived today!
Perfect knife in every way!! Love it, straight into the pocket. Its been great looking at everyone's pics to help my fix.

These are fabulous little knives. I properly sharpened mine this evening.
I am also worried about closing the blade on the bail. A lanyard might help keep it out of the way, or removing it entirely. Haven't decided.

Just ordered the Brazilian Bloodwood...that shield just completes this knife. Beautiful...

by the way, I really like the BeerScout Knife shield also...true enough, you can't just have one.

Opened a Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout for the first beer it opened.
I thought it deserved a solid beer for the first.

Just got my ebony model and removed the bail on it by hand. MUUUUUCH better. I was surprised how easy that was--I was expecting to need pliers...but nope, no tools required.

I did the exact same thing to mine; don't like the bail for my use .
Pretty thoughtful to include though for those that like them, and a worthwhile safety feature that they "break away" given enough force applied. Would rather lose a knife than lose a life.
Thanks,
Brian

So I am not sure if this is an appropriate question, so if it is not, I apologize; if you would, Barry, how many of your SFO beer scouts were produced?
Thanks,
Brian

Strictly in the name of 'science' I have been thoroughly testing this beauty... and like a true scientist I am ensuring the experiment is repeatable :D

Micarta and bloodwood on the way now, :D

Don't be sure to draw a conclusion and report your results until you're sure of your experimentation Brumby53 :D :D
