The Beer Scout Knife

I get excited about new knives from time to time, but seldom as amped up as I've been about the Beer Scout. Between the production versions and the SFO's, we really got our money's worth out of this run. With all of the various shields and covers, there was something for everybody. The Beer Scout is one of the very few knives that I know will stay in my EDC rotation for years to come.

I know that many serious collectors were put off by various aspects of the knife, but it's those aspects that make the Beer Scout truly great. It's the anti-collectors collectible pocketknife. Scout knives have always been sort of "over the top", with all of their various gadgets and gizmos. GEC just took the age old concept, and brought it up another notch or ten.

As proof of concept, I offer to you a stolen copy of the GEC Production Plan Sheet for the Beer Scout Knife. I took it upon myself to do a bit of dumpster diving over the weekend, while GEC security was busy keeping rendezvous visitors in line.

LOL

That must be a revision. I heard the original idea was drawn on a cocktail napkin at Boonies Sports Bar in Titusville. ;)

I only recall seeing one photo of the orange bone in this thread. seems odd. I think its a stunner of a knife, with nice subtle peachy tones. I already bought 5 beer scouts so couldn't quite jusitfy another

I would have bought more than the 3 Beer Scouts that I did, but too many irons in the fire. I have a preorder on the upcoming #77 Barlow, as well as the next MudBug run. I even had to duck out on the Ancient Barlow, which really hurts.

But the priority went to the Beer Scout. I knew that if i didn't get a few, I'd regret it for the rest of my life, just like the AG Russell Premium Scout years back. Regret is a terrible thing to live with.

Yes it does...very similar. Smith & Sons actually call it Natural Paper Micarta, and that's how I'll be referring to my micarta Soda Scout from now on.

I love the tube cap mod. I like my natural paper micarta soda scout, too.

What angle are you guys putting on the edges of your "scouts"? I used a 20 degree angle (each side) on my "gun scout" but haven't sharpened the others yet. They all have a nice thin primary grind so it would be easy to put a more extreme bevel on them.

I'm using the 30-degree inclusive angle setting on my Sharpmaker. It's what I use for most of my slipjoints.

When I first got my Beer Scouts, I was a little disappointed by the looks of the micarta Soda Scout. But it's really starting to grow on me now.
