The BladeForums 2022 Traditional Knife Thread

Linke me to that post. All the serial numbers I got are accounted for and if they came from me, that person will be blacklisted.

It's on the Slipjoint Exchange. The knives are turned over to obscure any numbers.

So, did some people buy these up directly from Spark with the plan to flip them for a profit, and post them on other social media (FB)? That does sound like a big no-no to me. Or did they buy a few used from other forum members?

I hate flippers/scalpers. As I understand things, it's considered okay for people to sell theirs on this forum, at their cost, if they don't like the knife. Personally, I would want them to only be sold and traded on this forum, without a big markup. I see how could that be enforced with bans, to stop or deter the abusers. But I'm sure other people might buy a used one or two for a safe queen while having one as a user, or one as a gift, etc.

I know that I am planning to acquire an extra on forum to post here as a knife giveaway in the near future, and I'm just looking for the right milestone to do so, like a holiday, or my 1000th or 2000th post post, etc. and need to figure out how to do a fair and unbiased drawing, as I've never done it before. My other thought was to find someone who has been hit by hard times and offer them one as a gift, like when Misplaced Hillbilly was AWOL for a while while helping his wife with her illness. Surely that would not be frowned upon.

Buying two would be pretty standard if you wanted to use one and keep one in pristine condition. More than that is where you see on that post they were bought with the sole intention of being tradebait for other knives. In other words, bought to flip as he states on his post.

I participated heavily in the drama over last year's knife, and I disliked doing so, ultimately. So, I'm going to sit this one out, my friend. :thumbsup:

That said, I am pulling for you to get that extra knife, you've got honorable intentions as far as I can see.

Yeah, I didn't really understand what he was saying on that post, out of context, and am not a part of that Facebook group. I didn't realize he intended to leverage the Bunny Knives for a better trade, thus for profit.

Bad Juju there. If I were in that position I'd have kept it here on the forum, and only let it go at my cost.

#433 has landed. Sorry for bad pic. Had to check it out in the bathroom getting ready for bed after working nights. So quick pic!

I’ve never had a small gec. Smallest is 48. I kinda get it. Neat little package. Not sure how much I’ll carry this one as it’s not my preferred blade choices but the chances went up when I took it out.

Sorry for the late reply, Bruce, but I wasn't sure if you were serious about math explanations. o_O 🤓

What would have ME dancing naked in the streets about your knife is the obvious fact that your serial # matches the first 3 digits of the pattern number!!! No one else has that - you couldn't get any uniquer!! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup:😁

If you want to know about prime numbers, you're probably best off checking Wikipedia where you can choose topics you want and read them at your own pace. But I'll give you a quick overview of the very basics, just in case you really wanted an explanation from me.

If a whole number bigger than 1 (so 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ... no fractions/decimals allowed) can be expressed as 2 whole numbers multiplied together, the 2 numbers multiplied are called factors (or divisors) of the original number.
So since 6 = 1x6, 1 and 6 are factors of 6. Also, since 6 = 2x3, 2 and 3 are more factors of 6.
Since ANY number N = 1xN, it's pretty clear that every number bigger than 1 has at least 2 factors, 1 and itself.
If a number bigger than 1 has EXACTLY 2 factors (nothing other than itself and 1) it's called a prime number, or we say it's prime.
If a number has MORE than 2 factors (factors in addition to 1 and itself), then it is called a composite number. (so "composite" is just a fancy term for "not prime" or "has more than 2 factors").

Looking at some small number examples:
2 = 1x2 and no other product works, so 2 has exactly 2 factors and is prime.
3 = 1x3 and that's it for factors, so 3 is prime.
4 = 1x4 = 2x2, so 4 has 1, 2, and 4 as factors - a total of 3 factors so 4 is composite.
5 = 1x5 2 factors: Prime.
6 = 1x6 = 2x3 so 6 has 4 factors (1,2,3,6) and 6 is composite.
7 = 1x7 2 factors: Prime.
8 = 1x8 = 2x4 4 factors: Composite.
...
60 = 1x60 = 2x30 = 3x20 = 4x15 = 5x12 = 6x10 so 60 has 12 factors: Composite.

391 = 1x391 = 17x23 so 391 has 4 factors (1, 17, 23, 391) and is composite, or not prime.

I was lost after sorry.😊

Quite possibly England is the worst at this moment.

The pen blade is shallow enough compared to the handle where there is no real chance of it hitting the backspring, so an extension on the tang (the kick) is not required. No idea if it has anything to do with history.
None and no it doesnt..sorry! overthinking.
....Here is my really fun number - it feels looks the same right side up or upside down.

No thank you, less expensive if I meet certain requirements. More expensive for what’s left over. Offensive

I think $160 shipped is a good deal. Look at what some of the regular production 39’s were selling for before shipping on other dealers sites.
Sadly it seems GEC are so popular now...we lucked in.
Turns out my son doesn't want it for his 25th birthday, and he's not qualified anyway, so I get to keep it 😝

(read that how you want)

Actually, not, but was just looking for an Avenue to make a joke at my son’s expense. Does that make me a bad father?
No just a bad person...youre their father ..not their mate.
I’m not against people trading but having 4 of em before they’re even all delivered and posting them on FB is wild.

Its not about getting a knife its about being part of the community.
People who post here are interested in traditional knives thats why they post here.
You are right Sensei..x

Really hope I can snag one this morning. These look fantastic. Are they going to get posted on this thread or a separate thread?

Edit: I’ve learned to read! Just noticed Spark’s note at the top of the page.
