The BladeForums 2022 Traditional Knife Thread

Thanks to a kind member here, I have exchanged a random number for #512. :D👍
It may be silly to feel this way, but I like this one so much better. It's the area code here in Austin and, as 5K Qs 5K Qs would know, the number 8 cubed. Very auspicious for the Year Of The Rabbit.

Congrats on the "new and improved" number, r8shell r8shell !:cool::thumbsup:
512 = 8^3, so is that the number of "cells" in a 3D chessboard?
And if you're into cubes, 8 = 2^3, so 512 is 2 cubed, cubed (or 2^9 if you'd prefer that).
And speaking of 2^9, what about that tang stamp???
391222: take sum of the first and last digits and stick it in front of the middle two digits - (3+2)12 -> 512
What's left? the second number on each end, 9 and 2, take the 2 to the 9th power -> 512
Fun with numbers is the only way to survive winter! 🤓

You lost me at “Congrats on the new and improved number… 🥴 🥴 🥴

Ah, I missed that but there you go. My eyes must work on occasion. They are beautiful looking knives at any rate and have gone a fair way in making me want both a nice clip point and an ebony handled knife!

I may not be able to buy another knife for quite some time after just forking out for an ivory handled folder, but it is my birthday soon and maybe the wife will pick me out something nice if I'm lucky!
Just so you don't set the bar too high, remember that GEC knives are tools, not jewelry... They are handmade, thus some facets vary.....

before any one gets bladeswap happy on harvesting that clip, i checked with Randy Bell, the pivot holes are different than the usual 15s. just a psa.
All components can be reamed to a common diameter along with a new, properly sized pin.... You'll be good as new Jack😊....

I remember when we didn't have to use the area code for local numbers.

I can remember when we first moved to Omaha we had a Party Line. My mom had a hoot listening in to neighborhood calls!
My Dad still lives in the same house he bought almost 54 years ago. We shared a party line with the town fire chief. I remember when we could call someone with just the last 4 digits. When they changed and mandated the prefix I thought there were going to be riots. My Dad wanted to remove the phone from the wall…

Well, let me add here, that actually they are collectables, I mean true collectables unlike some "collector's knives", so that's why people expect them to be perfect.

That's not the manufacturer's stated intent. However I can see the confusion due to the actions of the manufacturer sometimes do not appear to match the stated intent.
