The Case Barlow is BACK

thanks for the tip

How would you guys rate the pull on these, if an Alox SAK is a 5?
Better yet, how do they compare to the 1960s Barlows for those of you that have them?

I have two. One from sometime between 1940-1964 & another from around 1974. The pull on both are stiffer than the new run. I put the new ones at a 5, and my older ones at a good 7 or maybe 8.

Thanks, I can live with a 5.

What can I say that hasn't been said. This has classic styling in a blade combo that I really enjoy using and carrying. GREAT JOB CASE!!!!!!!!

Really nice pictures, and great knife! o_O

I've got the bug lately, and seein' these brown bone barlows is killin' me

Can't stay away from this thread though with these pictures lately, and more to come.

A few posts back there was mention of the non-matching sawcut on some of the barlows. A couple of years ago I emailed Case about the sawcut on a Teardrop I had---feint vertical on one side and distinct horizontal on the other. I asked if this was an anomaly or....? Here's the answer I received from Case:

The saw cuts directions can be random from piece to piece and we intentionally do not try and match them up. Think of it as being part of the "uniqueness" of a hand crafted Case bone handled knife.

That sounds more like an excuse for Case not taking a small amount of time to at least make the handles somewhat close, also the deep lengthwise gouge, I won't even call it saw cut, is far from traditional, it may be unique in Case's words but it is far from attractive or traditional.

Traditional saw cut,

Just in case anyone feels I'm being hard on Case I have multiple posts in this thread about how happy I am with Case bringing back the Barlow and doing a great job at a fair price, I've bought a dozen of them and until this supposed saw cut have been very happy with them. In my opinion they dropped the ball on the saw cut's.
Some of the best jigging I have seen recently.

Augie Augie I agree with you on every point. I think Case really missed the mark on this run; I ordered one of these expecting a traditional sawcut bone, and the mock up photos represented that close enough for me, but the cuts running the wrong way makes me cringe.

The jigging on those latter examples are fantastic!

I haven't bought a traditional knife in almost a year but a Case barlow in CV is just too much to pass up! The brown bone looks fantastic, I added a note to try to get matching covers, but it sounds like these are all great and I'll most likely be happy with what I get!

Are the days possibly over when it's a 50/50 shot you'll be returning a Case knife you bought before seeing???

This Brown Sawcut is my 5th Barlow in this current run. All have been keepers with very good F&F, W&T, and blade centering. Only one of them - a Caribbean Sawcut - has a very slight amount of blade play. I don't like blade play at all...and this one isn't enough for me to bother with sending back. The remaining 4 are all solid and wobble-free when open.

That’s definitely not Traditional Sawcut John. If Case says it’s unique they are right on that point for sure! I’ve got three of these in the mail to be delivered on Thursday. If any of them look like this example I will be making a right turn at the Sevierville exit on I-40 as we head to the Rendezvous! I’ll be making a return or exchange whichever they can accommodate!

Edit to clarify: Just so everyone understands, I’m not badmouthing Case with the above statement. I can’t even guess how many Case knives I own. The truth is they have been making Sawcut Bone Barlow’s longer than any manufacturer that’s still in business today. And they also put some very nice Sawcut on some of their other patterns as well. They know what Sawcut is supposed to be!

Wow,that's ugly. I have two of these saw cut Case barlows ordered. One from a company who has yet to respond to sending from ordering way back in June and one on the way from a company who never seems to disappoint. I'll be quite disappointed if the saw cut is like that in any way.

That stinks about those samples of saw cut going that way. I wonder if the company you bought them from will do a switch with you guys? Or if Case will replace them?
You got a beautiful example there Taylor!:)
Thanks I'm very happy with this knife. Best Case I have owned! Fantastic fit and finish on mine.
