The Case Barlow is BACK

Case knows how to make a good Barlow...let's hope we will see them in different handle materials than what is being done as initial production.

The second cut antique tang stamp was a one time Grail for me...and the pocket workworn red is just one of my favorite top 10 knives.

I wish GEC would take a stab at pocket worn corn cob jigging.

Vote with your wallet. Don't like 'em? Don't buy 'em. Want to tell Zippo how to run their pocket knife brand? Call 'em or mail 'em. I'm sure they'd value your opinions. https://caseknives.com/pages/contact-us

This thread made me get out my 2010 Second Cut Antique Bone Barlow that had at one time been a grail knife for me (shield and all). I think I'll carry it a bit in appreciation. Great walk and talk, sturdy build, stainless steel blades, fits in a watch pocket.
Please post a pic for us, John!!:)

Thanks for posting that picture, Justin!! I really like that pocket-worn Corncob, but I would hate to see GEC and Case present the "same" handles! Better to have the variation!!
CV steel would be good though, on the Case Barlows, IMO!
Are those PWs stainless??

So the market has Stainless in it, as well as carbon steel.
The stainless isn't exotic steel, in Case knives. I have never used a tru-sharp knife much, except for a Seahorse whittler for a time. I could get it sharp enough to use, but GEC's 1095 definitely has an edge on it! (pun intended!):D
Come to think of it, I haven't used a Case CV much either - asleep at the switch I guess!!
Antique Case Carbon steel is great stuff IMO!!

Well, I think I'll get my first Barlow from Sheffield. What better place? GEC is an alternative, though.
I would be very careful when shopping for a Sheffield Barlow . I can recommend these though that I got in 2014 .

I have a fairly recent IXL that is a big disappointment .
I would suggest starting with a Used Old Camillus to see if you like a Barlow .

I'm in the opposite boat to a lot of yall... I'm wishing they'd update the design a little more and get rid of that asinine 4 mile long bolster. I love the overall shape, size and blades on the one and only Barlow I have... but hate the look of those dumb bolsters.
..
By definition a Barlow is a Jack Knife with a Bolster approx. 1/3 the length of the closed knife . The exception to that is the Grand Daddy Barlows . If you do not like the Long Bolsters , and that is a matter of taste , just buy Jack Knives . The GEC 78 is a great one . I am sure that you will like it a lot .

I'd lap up one of those Corn Cob Jigged as a single Spear with that stamped bolster, stainless or cv :thumbsup:

W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company, one of America’s foremost manufacturers of premium knives, has unveiled that it will be reviving the Barlow after years of being locked away inside the Case XX® Vault. The Case® Barlow, a traditional favorite, will be previewed to the public at the 2019 SHOT Show, taking place in Las Vegas from January 22 – 25.

I will be getting 1 or a dozen for myself.

In the past I was very vocal!! I called Case directly with many ideas. I also tried to get them to do some SFOs. I tried to get them to do the Bladeforums annual knife!! And I tried to get them to do the "Seahorse" whittler in CV.
They never responded completely to anything I suggested. I am probably very lucky to get such great products from GEC.

I had posted it earlier in the thread, Charlie. Here it is again. Sorry that it is the same pic. Knife still looks like this - I haven't used it much. By the tang stamp it looks like it was a 2008

That's a very nice looking knife John. I've stated throughout this thread that I think Case should get rid of the shield on the Barlow's covers but that's just my opinion and preference but your pictured knife looks great. Of course it would look a lot better with a medium patina and a few scratches.:)

I have been a longtime admirer of the old Red Bone Case Barlows. Kind of hard to find but they please me every time I see one pictured here. Sure, their execution of the clip blade is not my favorite (definitely give the nod to GEC in that respect), but I am looking forward to trying these Barlows out and will be getting 3 or 4.

One of the things I tend to be most critical of Case (modern Case) over (aside from anemic actions and weird polishing standards) is their propensity towards garishly dyed bones. The jigged blue does not look bad but that funky stamp is a bit off putting. The Caribbean Bone speaks to the garishness that I do not care for and will not be getting one of those and I have not been bitten by the acrylics yet. I have would have to agree with Harry, the Smooth Antique Bone is easily the most handsome, especially with the grooved bolster, though I do like the Bone Stag as well.

Shields with Barlows do not pair well and why we saw Queen do that, as well as Boker, and now Case, I cannot fathom.

Regardless, I am thrilled that they bringing this pattern out of the vault and I really do hope they do some other cover options, namely some classic red bone, perhaps even some Appaloosa.
