I pull a Michael Jackson when I grind. One glove. I have the most awkward damn grinding approach. I should get it on video. I do it upside down and I use one gloves hand to keep equal pressure applied. That one needs a little heat protection haha.

Figured out stop pins. They're easier to do then expected. Man Im dumb lol.

I got tapping to work too! This time I only broke my #47 in ti, but I made it through three scales and I was able to hand tap all three. #47 was the hot ticket!

D when you gonna loose some flipper pics on us??

B- let's see your folder. or are you like rolf... computer upload restricted?

hmmm yes beer.. been lots of coffee in the morning (dark roast local stuff in the french press), and then a couple beers every night.. been a habit.. and I don't like getting trapped in these habits.. must take a week or so off of the coffee :D

also I switched tequilas... cazadores started using a new label.. so I said time to switch! now i shoot Corralejo reposado tequila.. and it is more smooth and tastier... shot almost needs no chaser.. follow with beer, then another shot or beer or both.. mmmm

time for another beer :D ciao!

In late and I'm fried... been up since 2 am {cats!!! that and I fell asleep at seven} and in the shop since 6.... took off at 5 for soccer and that was cool.

More on the flipper soon, :D I can't wait!!!! I turned in my CAD for waterjet about a week ago and it has been accepted! That's good because they only accept pro CAD work now and somehow mine passes....now I'm just waiting to hear back and soon my work will be cut. I never really know on time as I do not set it as a requirement but I have the best guy in the industry on it and am just happy to have the very best of everything from the ground up. But yeah, I can't freakin' wait for parts to be in so I can get started!!!

More soon... Bobby I wanted to answer you on those taps earlier but was pretty overwhelmed with good stuff today... sounds great as I think a size up on thread forming is perfectly acceptable and smart especially on smaller, difficult to tap parts. I like to go spot on for frames and a thou or two over for smaller stuff. Just test them and you wlll be confident

Hee hee!

I grind upside down with a scotchbrite belt sometimes...

Cool on the pins! I've done press fit and floating, switching to floating for all as it is so solid but they are a pain that way.

That tapping stuff can be tricky! I had not tapped a spacer in a while and broke 2 $2O taps immediately.... then I did the next 12 no problem. On 4-4O and some others you can find a metric bit that works as a tiny step up....

Folder pics! They look nice B!

Watch out for that coffee! :D

I'll check out that Tequila, I just buy whatever is all agave but I mix it. I do like a nice full agave flavor...

Good morning cheers! I toast my coffee to you!

I working with some Zirconium today! I literally take my grinder apart after every use and clean the Zirc dust off, it is wild stuff when it catches fire! It's tough to work with and costs twice as much as Ti but wow is it cool!

Bobby I'll do a video on the lock bar cutout and pivot collars. Good idea!

my usual happy hump day on this overcast/dreary wednesday in the South Bay, but I heard that Mcdonalds out here is serving gilroy garlic fries...on there way up lol?

D, Zirconium is very tough bro. Even in the mining/chemical field it takes a lot of work to get it into a solution as I know very well haha. I use a Tungsten Carbide container for our little mill and it still wreaks havoc.
The hardest thing I worked with is 99.999% pure alumina. It basically stonewashed my tungsten carbide setup at work.

Cool stuff! Are you milling it in the container?

Interesting on the alumina too, I know it is great stuff for polishing stones if it is powdered.

Isn't that essentially saphire/ruby/emerald? Super tough stuff...

I think it is also called sapphire powder...

I heard it can contaminate Ti when blasting, just learned this recently. Not sure if it is technically the same thing though

I've cut a few emeralds and interestingly enough they were really nice to cut and work with.

...I'm working on a Zirconium pendant with a natural Star Sapphire set in Sterling. Think black Zirc and dark blue sapphire... nothing really done yet except the logistics, when I got the stone it looked so big I changed up my design! It's going to be really nice, the stone I got is excellent.

Just got in for lunch and literally changed clothes so I don't taste any metal, lol....

Alumina can take that form - it's one of many types of Aluminum oxides. Corundum is the name usually given to the gemstone minerals, so I'm not sure if he's talking about naturally occurring types, or an abrasive or refractory material using it.

Ok, I knew it was similar, but wasn't sure exactly how so. Pretty cool stuff!

Daniel, that pendant sounds cool, my mom does a lot of gemstone jewelry.

Its refractory material that is specially made for us using 99.999% pure alumina to withstand the high temperatures that occur in the products we make.

D, I'm trying to turn pure refractory material aka 99.999% into fine powder so I can easily digest it. It has been a struggle as what the engineers want to know is making it harder for me to get a bulk analysis for instead of doing an easier technique.

Maybe I'll keep some of it to try for polishing lol

Yo yo yo!

I avoid pics here. It's D's home, so I keeps it that way.

Any advise on shortening pivots and screws? I will need to do both so they fit cleanly. Not sure if using a bandsaw will screw up the threads or if I should grind them down or whatnot.

Some supplies came in today. Broke another #47 but was able to get it out of the ti. Finished drilling and tapping the lot. Tapping ended up being the easiest part! I gotta stock up on #47's though haha.

That pendant sounds amazing! You always got some crazy stuff in the works. I think it's going to look real slick.

shorten pivot - make a jig by drilling a hole in a piece of thick flat steel stock... shorten pivot on the grinder then hand sand just a bit with a sanding sponge. Leave the pivot in the jig when hand sanding but expose the end by a few thousandths to knock any burrs off.

I just grind/measure but you can do the math and counterbore your pivot jig to hit an exact length.

You can use this general technique for shortening screws too... but tap the hole first

I have a pivot lap too but mostly use it to shorten standoffs they have to match dead on. USAKM makes them but i bet they are out of stock... easy enough to just make a jig...

Yo, dudes,

Happy Friday. Remember Sunday is Mother's day... hug 'em if ya got em.

Speaking of that - hope momma F is doing well. How's she getting along, Daniel?

Hey guys good morning!

Thanks TR! She is doing pretty well, no longer in the hospital so that is really good! I really appreciate you asking.

Big day here... making knives! :D
