The Club and Improvised weapons thread (Post your Handy work!)

Just ran to Lowe's and picked up the fittings. If I remember correctly, it's just a 3/4" to 1 1/4" threaded connector and a 1 1/4" cap (the end of the handle was just a hair over 3/4", so with a little sanding, it screwed on very tightly--I had originally planned to epoxy the fittings on too, but it just wasn't necessary).

I really wanted to do it up in some nice brass, but nobody local had any this size, and I didn't feel like waiting. If I ever find any brass fittings out and about, I plan to pick some up--I think the brass would look old and classy--like something out of the 1920's.

The head is my Great Grandfather's from the Great war & the haft is my Grandfather's from ww2.
There's a very good chance that this has taken a few lives, as they both survived some nasty hand to hand in the trenches & jungle.
I haven't named it, but it lives next to my bed, for safe keeping ;)

That’s an awesome bit of history. You should look for a period entrenching tool, and use the old handle for your granddads spiked head.
Very cool. Thanks for letting us look at it.

Now look what you guys made me do!

(And it wasn't enough that your pics made me go and slap some cast iron fittings to the end of an old rake handle--nooooo--I had to sand and finish the handle before turning it into a zombie bashing club that now hangs on a nail inside the closet by my front door!)

Very nice. . .and extremely simple. . .I'm inspired!

Also very cool!!!

I think my hurley could make a pretty good impact weapon if it had to.

Its a new one freshly oiled, i think they look a little more intimidating when theyre taped up, but i snapped my old one and needed to seal the new one first before tape.

Here's another one that was not made as a weapon, but would certainly do some damage.

It's a froe club. I made it from American Hornbeam ("ironwood"). It's very heavy and hard. Striking the froe with it hardly shows any effect.

Now there's a real tool, in action no less. I've always wanted to have a reason to make shingles like that.... looks like fun.

So this is my latest, it's simple and I left it a little rough for a nice used look.

Edit- I don't know if you can tell but its actually upside down in the picture.

Oh please oh please oh please!

Aside from a ball-n-chain flail thing, also on my wish list for this thread is a massive two-hand crusher.
Something that would completely smash a pumpkin, not just knock a hole in it.

A thread that I can relate to....
Here's a couple I made a few years ago.

These mangle anything you swing them at.

Handles are mountain Juniper.

Balls are Oak.

Wrappings are home-made deer rawhide.

The lining in between the straight handle and the head is raccoon hide.(can't really see it in the pictures)
