The Competition Finish Is Gone . . . . . .

I believe that now Busse will be selling less TGLB's. I, personally, wouldn't purchase a coated one.

I guess it would have been nice to have been given a heads up on the CF. "We are think of stopping the option of....", " In a month the CF will no longer be available". just to give a little notice.

I too agree with this. I think if a heads up was given there wouldn't be so much negativity. I'm surprised at the lack of anger about prices going up. I get that prices go up but it would have been nice to know ahead of time. That one bugs me a little. I had a request for a TGLB for probably 6 months or so and was told to wait for my special request (toxic green G10). I don't think it's ever going to happen and now I get to pay $50 more if I order one. I'm not all that upset though because I already have an original TG. Just surprised others aren't too bugged by it.

Phew, my 4th TGLB in CF was shipped 2 weeks ago ...after delaying for a few months ...just in time :D

Absence makes the heart grow fonder... It will be gone for a while , we will miss it, it will be back, we will appreciate it more :)

The Competition Finish was meant to be just what it said it was, a "competition grade finish".

It was not supposed to be "pretty" or "perfect" and although I believe we had made that quite clear, there seemed to be way too much confusion.

We received so many returns for machine marks and other marks left behind during the production process that the added time in refinishing the blades to meet the customer's expectations made it way too costly to continue.

Hope that helps,

Jerry :D

Always have to be a few dill weeds ruining good things for others.

Totally understandable decision. If people can't handle the jello they should not take the cruise..................

How about, those of us who already have CF, are happy AND proud of it, and will someday need the -M mate to our TGLB...

Can we phone it in?

Puuuuleeease!?!?

hate to say it but this announcement kind of puts a damper on my desire for a TGM. i just thought the TGLB was "okay" but maybe a little bigger than what i wanted. something about the competition finish on that blade made it a little more realistic and easier to picture it as a usable item. the TGM for me just took it a step further with a blade length and overall size that appeared to be ideal for a tough no-nonsense user. satin (when available) is just to expensive of an option when all i really want is too be able to wipe my blade clean after use and maybe not be eating paint chips. personally i don't like a coated blade and when the coating is scarred up the knife doesn't look good. plus, it may just be me but i always feel i need to clean the coating more than i would raw steel. i can deal with scratchs and dings and tool marks as long as i'm looking at steel. i can barely justify the cost of infi but if it's the knife i want i can usually make it happen. its sad that i just recently found out that competition finish was an option since getting my jackhammer and it's hard to believe it's gone just like that.

those people who complained about the finish are most likely just like the competition finish tool marks. shallow and superficial to the point they should not matter. i realize that the busse brand is on the higher end of the busse knife group but it seems that again that my desires are just too humble.

and yes, i'm going for the guilt trip approach! i really wanted to try to get a cf TGM! lol!!!

seriously jerry, if there is anyway to keep competition finsh as a regularly available option it is well worth consideration.

VIA GHETTO SATIN!!!

seriously, paint stripper + 15 minutes = cf.

more like...

painter stripper + 15 minutes + paint stripper again + 30 minutes + sand paper + 30 minutes + scotchbite + 1 hour = still no quite competition finish.

at least from my experience...

...and call me crazy but you would think it wouldve been a easy thing to leave the coating process out than anything else. but leave it a few people to screw that up. well i honestly do hope they enjoy their comepetiton finish blades more than i will my stripped finish option.

no joke I already went through the denial phase by not thinking it was for real. my last lost was the bargaining phase. I guess this it the anger phase. what's next? are there any begging or bribery phases?

"no that's not left over coating from a poorly done strip job. those are the stains from my tears because I wanted a real competition finish!"

This is a shame. I was just thinking a week or two ago about asking if the custom shop could do a sarsquatch minus the swedge with competition finish...

Oh well, off to the next knife! :D

The next two are Depression and Acceptance. :devilish:

I have a few competetion finish blades with tools marks, I never looked at them as an eye sore, quite the opposite, I perceived it as giving my blade some character and uniqueness .

Ok, i'm going to be the spoil sport here.

Jerry, if we know CF, love CF, and want CF, since CF doesn't cost any more... and we can clearly point to ourselves on this forum, why not cut your costs, and just let us order (stealthly, of course) our favorite finish??

Just don't advertise it.

Does he really care?.....he is going to sell everything he makes. Lapped up and asking for more. I am just sayin

Then what's gonna happen when you sell or trade it down the road and the new owner decides he doesn't like the machine marks?. He's gonna try to send it in.

Sell it?

This does perplex me. I see Jerry's point, especially for first hand purchases. But for second hand, it is what it is aesthetically. If you buy a knife that's been stripped to CF, could they send it to Jerry to be recoated for free? Or if you don't like the crinkle texture that some of the coatings have, can you complain? If you're the original purchaser, and couldn't tell it was that way from the web site, maybe. But if you are a second hand buyer, and the aesthetics don't deter from functionality, you get what you buy.
